from completed build 2021 | Kiwi
Still mostly kicks *** in 2021. This can be excellent value depending on the price you find it for.
from completed build Old Dusty gets a new look
I love this guy. Back when I was building a PC, this was among the budget CPUs competing with the i5-4690k. I don't have great numbers on gaming performance, but for my relatively simple needs it performs admirably. The FX-4300 was probably a better value for me, but I don't think they had it stocked at Microcenter, and its price was volatile enough that it wasn't always worth it.
from completed build The Legend
For how outdated it is, it's working miracles.
from completed build "Ricer" (Old PC in new case with some extras)
If you are looking at this chip in 2020 or later, look somewhere else, like the Ryzen 3 3100. Or buy something used that at least supports DDR4.
However, at the time, it was a pretty decent budget offering, with 3 cores and 6 threads (though marketed as a "6 core processor"). Recently got an AIO (long story) and was able to get it to 4.4 GHz. Still gets creamed by my laptop's i7 8565U... Cinebench R20 score is basically half of my laptop's, even with the overclock.
from completed build DDR3 Prebuilt Ibuypower Upgraded
Keeps working great, no issues.
from completed build For lack of a case - Cabinet PC
Did me well for the two years I had it. Can run most VR.
from completed build The Little Dumpster Ranger
I've heard so many horror stories about this series of processors. I had to search long and hard for recommendations to prevent blue screens and AMD support had the solution for disabling TurboCore and disabling Cool'n'Quiet. Since then, I've been able to crank this thing beyond 4.0Ghz with no issues. It has been fun and enlightening learning about this notorious CPU series.
from completed build The Build That Needs Explanation
Got this processor donated for a build that's why I'm using it in 2019. Can't knock off any stars because it performs exactly as expected, paired with a RX 570 this CPU can hold its own in competitive gaming.
from completed build EQ Next Gen
This chip has run for 7 years with minimal to no powered down time with no issues. Some including myself still game with this in 2019.. If you wish to remain with AM3+ and have this chip the RX 480/580 would be your best option to reach max potential while leaving option for future. The 580 will be limited by the cpu but when you do switch over Ryzens work great with 480/580 for Max 1080p.
from completed build Northwind 2.0
Overclocked to 4.5 with no issue. Handles GTA 5, heavily modded Skyrim, video live streaming and everything else I throw at it with ease.
