This build is almost unrecognizable now. I've replaced the motherboard for a Maximus XI Apex and the PSU for an EVGA 1600w T2 and sold the GPU and bought 2 2080 Ti K1NGP1Ns and hydro copper blocks for them. I just got a Thermaltake Level 20 XT ordered. Once it gets in I'll be able to measure for the custom cables and radiator and fan clearances to get those ordered. Plan on doing 2 loops; 1 with a 420 rad for the cpu and one with dual 480s for the GPUs.
Just in case this isn't a joke/meme/troll you should put your PSU shroud back on and you really should route those cables through the rubber grommets. It's a great rig spec-wise but it could look so much better. Honestly, on the hidden side of my PC case it's just cables smashed together because I'm too lazy to neatly route cables where no one can see. But anywhere you can see inside is as neat as possible.
It was between that and the EVGA Dark. They both have great VRMs and the best at memory overclocking. Honestly the dark is better than the Apex in both categories but the Apex has dual USB 3.1 headers, and I hate to admit this is important, but RGB support.
Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed are definitely my favorites. I also like Bitwit and Paul's Hardware. Der8auer is always great when he's speaking English, lol. I do watch a good bit of LTT, although I do find him really cringey, but they do a lot of interesting stuff, too. I haven't heard of Phil's Computer Lab but I'll definitely check them out. The one I have to stear clear of is UFD Tech. They're the most negative channel I've ever seen. They basically just post click bait for AMD Fanboys. They do nothing but talk trash about Intel and Nvidia (which hasn't been hard after the past year)then give AMD a pass any time they mess up. Drives me crazy. I have 0 issue when GN and Hardware Unboxed give Nvidia and Intel flack because it's justified and unbiased but UFD Tech has never said a single positive thing about either company.
So I started seeing a handful of Czech and German YouTubers posting videos of Maximus XI Apex unboxing videos so I started scouring German retailers looking to see who could get the motherboard and shipped to the US and finally found one. A quick look at the VRM shows 17 power stages so it's either an 8 or 16 phase as it doesn't have igpu support. I'll let you know if anything changes. At worst, it'll stay the same and I'll be able to sell it for a pretty penny being that they're not available in the states. At best I'll get better temps and a better memory overclock. Now I just have to wait God knows how long for it to arrive lol.
Yeah, I've never done a custom loop either although I've always wanted to. I've always wanted to do a truly epic build but never had the money to do so so now that I do I want to go all out. According to Steve from Gamers Nexus, Der8auer designed that case to be used for water cooling and I've seen some epic builds with custom loops. It's between that and the Corsair 750D or 900D. Or I may just stick with the H500m and just make it work. I also want to do rigid tubing which seems like it could be pretty difficult so I'm trying to decide if I should start with rigid or do soft then move to rigid later. But you're right, temps are great in anything that actually matters and really that's all that counts. I just hate seeing it get that hot in any situation. I tried the aida64 fpu stress test last night and almost every core thermal throttled immediately which was a little depressing but that's the most hardcore avx load imaginable which I'll never see.
I just watched the tweaktown guide for your motherboard and they're getting 95c+ in small fft at 5 GHz at 1.296v on h150 pro so I'm just going to assume that everything is good and you just have a magical CPU, lol. He didn't even have to mess with the package power limits/times, they just defaulted to max on his when set to auto which I think is interesting. I'm just going to chill out and start planning my custom loop with direct die cooling. I'm thinking of going with your case or possibly a big Corsair case as there's not a ton of room for a reservoir and radiators in my h500m.
So, just playing with stuff, the only way i can get temps even remotely close to where you're at in small fft prime95, is if i leave the turbo mode parameters set to auto, ie long duration package power limit, package power time window, and short duration package power limit. It essentially cripples the cpu to 2200 to 2400 mhz and in hwinfo it wouldn't show power limit being hit. However, if you went down to where it says package-level rapl/pbm pl1 will have been ticked to yes. You're a pretty savvy guy so I'm assuming that's not it but it's the only thing i could think of. When i do that my temps are mid to high 50s. At the same time I hate to say that my delidded cpu runs the same temp at 2200 as someone else's at 5000 lol
whelp, didn't go very well. i ordered some kryonaut from a third party on amazon and didn't realize that the package had been cut open from the bottom and was completely empty. I used the little bit i had left which was adequate although I did want to use a little bit more. When putting the cooler on, it got snagged on one of the screws so it didn't go on as flat as i had wanted. All in all, results are about the same. A little hotter, actually, but it is warmer than usual in the house so ambient temps aren't helping. I'm going to rush order some more kryonaut and try one more time, although, i don't expect results to be any better in the small fft range. I checked the flatness of the cpu and cold plate. The cold plate is dead flat although it looks like the ihs might have a tiny bit of concavity so a full lapping might be in order although I wouldn't think it should help THAT much. I'm guessing that this 4 phase vrm is introducing more heat than necessary.
yeah, i was thinking that too. silicon lottery supposedly does a mild lapping on each cpu, and i did see a little bit of scuffing on the ihs but i plan on checking that as well. this is my 2nd 9900k. the first wouldn't get prime stable without 1.38 v and i swear it got lower temps in certain situations than the current one does. generally this one is much lower in games, but stress testing they seem to be the same or the new one worse which doesn't make ANY sense being that it's delidded and works at a full tenth of a degree lower plus siliconlottery supposedly tests.
Yeah, that looks good to me. I'm at 60s when I first started prime blended, but as soon as I do small fft I hit 80s which after a few minutes starts to hit 90s. Large fft should only give you better temps so I wouldn't bother. I had an impromptu movie night so I didn't get a chance to reseat my cooler but I definitely will tonight. I've got really good airflow as well, I've got the cooler pulling in air from the front of my case and 2 200mm fans blowing air into it. Hopefully a reseat will do it, if not I'm going to strongly consider getting a new Mobo. I could chalk some of that to silicon quality but a 30 degree difference is INSANE! I updated the bios last night so I'm going to reseat and check temps and see if anything changes. Being that the chip is soldered, silicon lottery says that at best you get a 4 to 8 degree decrease from delidding. And yeah, I've been a little disappointed in temp performance. I expected way lower. If the Aorus z390 boards had 2 USB 3.0 headers I'd get one now. I hate having a case that has 4 in front and having only 2 work or having an ugly expansion card under my GPU.
Yeah, my voltage is jumps between 1.270 and 1.288 at 5 GHz. When running blended it is anywhere between 50s but when it hits the smaller ffts it gets up to mid 90s. I also have a 10 degree difference between my lowest core and my highest so one core is 88 and one is 98 and getting throttled. From what I've read, delidded chips shouldn't be that bad so I'm going to reseat my cooler to see if it changes anything. I have read that motherboards with better VRMs get better temps which my VRM on my Maximus XI Code kinda sucks. But power limits are the only thing I could imagine getting THAT much of temp difference but maybe I'm wrong. When the Maximus XI Apex comes out with the better VRM kll be selling my code and picking it up. It should have better memory overclocking as well with the way the memory bus is set up. After that I'm going to do a custom loop with direct die cooling.
If you are getting temps that good,I'd double check to see if you're being power limited. You may not have removed the tdp limit. I've got the same cooler and a delidded CPU so we should at the least have comparable temps

Those temps are large fft? My delidded 9900k hits mid 90s with small fft/blended at 5 GHz @ 1.28v but I haven't tried large fft.

They really do. I had my 920 overclocked to 4.2 GHz with 2x 770s in SLI and they were getting bottlenecked in newer titles. It was driving me nuts and I was getting to the point where I couldn't play some games without significantly lowering quality at 1080p. That and I bought an X1 Carbon Ultrabook with an i7-8550u and it outran the overclocked 920 in cinebench so I decided it was time and decided to go as hard as I could.
And yeah, right now I've got a 1440p 165 hz monitor which at the highest settings usually gets 100 fps or higher in most games but I am planning on going 4k HDR eventually as soon as the gsync monitors come down in price.

I did a bit of research and you can get up to 10 fps between 3200 and 4000 MHz. I originally had 3200 and my brother decided to build an 8086k build so I gave them to him and got these just to see how high my memory controller can go. And yeah, PSU is definitely overkill but I got it for $150 (the cost of a solid 850w) but this way I never have to worry about power and according to a PSU calc at full bore I could pull about 700w which is pretty close to the top of the efficiency curve. What do you plan on doing with the second PC. I literally have all the parts to do exactly what you did. My 9900k and Maximus XI that replaced my X and 8086k got here a couple months ago. All I'd need was a Maximus Gene for the ITX. I was looking at building a dual machine but just can't fathom the application.
I've read that SSDs don't like to be cooled and that heatsinks and liquid cooling can kill them. You should only cool the controller and not the nand

Buying this nice of a computer is a waste on a 1080p monitor. That 2080 is wasted on a 1080p 60hz monitor. Really a 1080p monitor of any kind because you're so CPU bottlenecked even with a 9900k at that resolution. You need 1440p AT LEAST, if not 4k. I had my 1440p monitor with a GTX 1080 and was pushing around 100 fps on most games and a 2080 is the equivalent to a 1080 Ti. Now I have a 9900k and a 2080 Ti and I'm feeling like it's being wasted on 1440p.
That thing is beautiful, although if you just built it, it really sucks that the 9980xe was just announced. I'd love to build something like this but but I just can't justify the price tag, and this is coming from someone whose put $5k into his rig. I just put pre-ordered the 9900k to replace my 8086k (because I'm dumb and can't help but want the 2 extra cores and soldered tim) and am waiting on the Strix 2080 Ti to finally release then I'll start working on my custom loop.
Why not get a wireless ac card? Wireless n is pretty much obsolete now.
I could definitely hit 5.3 with a delid but I don't like seeing the temps get that high
CPU overclock? I got mine up to 5.2 GHz on an H150i Pro 360 AIO in a push/pull config with the H500M's 2 front 200mm fans.
