I explained how I set up the fans in the description :

The cpu fan has been reversed so it blows air towards the psu which itself blows air outside the case

Note: in the first days, I had a"click" noise from the psu after a few minutes. Some people on the forums even complained about it. But since then, never heard it anymore.

Unfortunately, 60mm is the maximum height for the CPU cooler. You can see in the 6th picture that there is no more space between the cooler and the PSU.

I planned to build a config on an i3 6100/7100 basis. But I discovered the i3 are nearly as powerful as the pentium for much more money.

To lower the budget, you could have gone for second hand parts on an i3 basis. Also I've heard that AMD cpus are cheaper.

Now I'm going and read the description...

Why not ? I have got a 1151 mobo and I have tried it with a non-gpt hdd and that worked. You need to check in the bios that legacy mode is enabled, otherwise you can't boot on that hdd.

The height doesn't matter when you choose a motherboard. It matters when you choose a case.

Owning this ssd and the same motherboard as well with no fan in the case expect the cpu one, I haven't yet seen this "thottling". In everyday use, I don't think you'll be able to reach it. It only happens when you do a bench at full speed after a certain time ie between two 950pro. You can't reach that speed between a 950 pro and another SATA ssd or a 950 pro and hdd or a 950 pro and an usb stick. 950 pro can get thermal throttled in some specific conditions.

Not at all. It doesn't go over 30°c for basic stuff. I have mounted a fan case but it is always off. If I make it run at full speed, temps go lower by 10°c. I haven't got a gpu but you can't have a gpu and a case fan at the same time. There is not enough space.

Differences

Higher TDP and higher frequencies for the k version.

I chose the regular one because I think that the price difference is too much for that.

I used to have the stock cooler and I found it quite noisy. I often read on forums that it is not really efficient. But I haven't tested it on this rig.
