No you don't, the stock cpu cooler that comes with the cpu would suffice till you get an aftermarket cooler to overclock

If the main purpose of this build is gaming, you should of went with an i5 and 8gbs of ram and spent the savings to get a 970.

Is it really worth the risk instead of getting possibly 500/550 which could still fit in that case.

850 evo is 99. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz75e250bam

Also I would try and get something better than bronze PSU and slightly higher wattage IMO. Especially seeing as it wont matter what color it is because it will be covered in your case.

Love the build, but how come you decided on that CPU cooler as opposed to a dual rad such as the H100i or a kraken?

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Would like opinions on my first build"

I recommend getting a z97 board instead so you dont have to deal with bios update and not micro atx.

Here is an option for $79 but it isn't black/red, cheapest black and red I could find was 100+: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z97pcmate

They are removable, the H100i is actually mounted to the frame of the case it is hard to tell from the picture(was able to do this with the mounting brackets provided). The two top fans are pretty much flush to the radiator, I did it this way to have a push pull config through the radiator without having to have even more fans. I can get some better picture if you would like.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Good?"

I suggest a z97 board seeing as you are getting the unlocked CPU and an aftermarket cooler. What is the point if you can't even overclock the CPU.

This is a suggestion and only 6 dollars more than your current MB: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z97ssliplus

Comment reply on Forum Topic "i5-4609k for this do i need a cpu cooler if i dont overclock?"

  • 1 point

All CPUs need a cooler of some sort, what you mean I'm assuming is do you need an aftermarket cooler. If you are not overclocking no you do not, the stock cooler the processor comes with would suffice. Overclocking is used to get a bit more performance out of your CPU which wouldn't have too much effect on running warlords of dreanor. However the benefit of getting a K CPU would allow you to OC in the future if you decide to with only having to get a CPU cooler and of course having a Z97 motherboard.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "I5 4690 vs 4690k"

  • 3 points

The 6 dollar difference seems trivial and seeing how affordable Z97 boards with little saving compared the the h97 for a basic board you might as well get the k version for possibly OCing in the future.

This is exactly my solution right now, I just use the 1440p IPS monitor for my main gaming screen and just have a cheap secondary 1080p monitor for webpages and other random crap that I need when I'm gaming. For my needs I even decided against getting a 3rd monitor or replacing my 2nd with 1440.

Seeing as you only have a 600W PSU I'm assuming your not going to SLI in the future. So something like this would suffice: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z97pcmate

If you might SLI in the future this would be good: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-z97g55sli

I'd say get a 970 over that 290x, better performance and cheaper. Take some of that savings and get an h100i instead for the dual rad for better cooling. Also to save money IMO get a cheaper optical drive.

Had this in my other comment: "I would be willing to negotiate to $350 if they have all the stuff that came with it and/or the back-plate" Also check ebay 300 to 350 easily for USED. Seeing as some of the new ones are < 450. I'm not in a hurry though and I like the PCPP community that is why I haven't just bought one from ebay yet.
