I think I mentioned this last time we spoke but you should go for a sapphire R9 290 tri-X. Also, Windows 8 is dead. I'd go for 7 unless you need 8 to run something specific

Switch the 270X for a 290. Also, I've seen some reviews complaining of airflow issues in that case.

Aw nice how much? I'm buying next month and it's my plan to get one too. Guess I'll be paying full price :P

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Air cooled cpu with a hot gpu"

From what I've read the Sapphire R9290 TriX keeps temps at about 50-60 C under load. But if it is running hot you could Always mount your PSU with the fan facing inwards which would suck a lot of the hot air out from beneath the GPU.

That may lower the life of your PSU but not by any significant amount. Also, I'd rather replace my PSU than graphics or CPU!

No probs, I'm in pretty much the same position as you. Been saving for ages for my first rig and it's almost a reality hehe.

Is this mainly for gaming? Will you be doing any editing or graphics work?

A dude I went to school with recommended a corsair water cooler too. Do you think the cooler master will be okay for now? I was thinking I could upgrade to a water cooler if I decided to OC

I'll be using this for gaming and editing mate. I can barely contain myself at the prospect of playing games like DayZ and Rust, not to mention Minecraft in large lobbies (only have 360 at the moment). Also looking at the likes of WoW as it's all new to me.

As for editing, I'll be using adobe CC as that's what I use in college :)

I think the R290X only gets you an extra frame or 2 per second over the R9 290. If you switched those that would bring you closer to your budget

Yeah I've heard of people hitting crazy levels over clocking. Here's a build I've been messing about with, I'm mostly torn about the GPU. I've heard horror stories about the Powercolor R9 290, even with the bios updates. But I just don't know.

Yes, so maybe it's worth going for an FX8350 or an OC i5 in the meantime with the intention of upgrading to something like the X99? Although I guess the X99 merits a RAM and motherboard upgrade for DDR4

I'm thinking that if there is a whole new chipset coming out this year, the 8350 would be a better short term investment too…yeah?
