Looks fine, but I would definetly reccommend getting a spending a bit more on a 144hz monitor.
I bought this **** off ebay, ya never know....
Then I may need 64gb, I planned on using terragen 4, blender, and DaVinci Resolve 14.
I need ddr2 for a q6600 based computer.

Someone please halp
Do yourself a favor and get a R5 1600 instead and while admitedly worse in single threaded performance it is much cheaper, newer, on a socket that is planned to be used for up to 4 years, and has an extra two cores which will be a godsend when doing editing and streaming.
Nothing in this build makes sense. A 700w psu? Why? And why do you think a 4 core 4 thread I5 with 8Gb ram will beat a 6 core 12 thread R5 with 16gb?
Will the 520w psu leave much room for expansion? Also, I plan on overclocking, will the stock thermal compound be sufficient for that?
Edit: By rendering I mean blender and SFM.
Thanks, I'll take that into consideration.
How's this then?
I need the extra two cores for blender. I chose the rosewill because it was semi modular.
Fixed it. Sorry about that.
Very effective, but you should have put the gpu and other stuff you had already bought at 0.00$ to avoid confusion.
Have to admit i'm impressed by the case. I doubt you needed a 500w psu though.
Why did you go with a 5820k? The 6800k is cheaper, slightly faster, and newer, and the 1600x is launching in 8 days and is much cheaper for similar performance.
Why in god's name did you choose a gt 740 and linux for this build?
Wait for ryzen 5. You either get a better deal on this cpu or a similar one on the ryzen platform for cheaper.
Is the case more a matter of preferance or an actual advantage? Thanks for clearing up those other thongs btw.
I don't see the point of some of the changes you made. Why did you change the case, keyboard and psu?
Yes, the 1700. All ryzen 7 cpus are the same, with the main difference being in clockspeed.
Heavy rendering and moderatly heavy gaming.
Get the 1700 and overclock it, then use the extra to either get more ram or a 1080 ti.
Thanks for pointing that out, will take that into consideration for the final build.
If I very rarely did rendering, then maybe your argument would be valid, but the main problem is this: I will be rendering very often and would rather has a cpu that has excellent performance in gaming and excellent performance in rendering rather than a cpu that has unbeatable performance in gaming but completely tanks in rendering. 8 gb ram is not nearly enough to get by in rendering either. As for the 600$, I could easily build something around the 1600/1600x that beats the 6600 handily for about 100$ extra, and I only said the cheaper the better because I have seen some people who are more skilled at me at building pcs cheapen builds significantly by choosing parts more wisely. You're build was sufficient for the task you had in mind, but that was not the task I had in mind.
I made some changes to the build, shown here:https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Z3c6xY
I upgraded the psu because I plan on ocing. Anything else I should know?
Somehow you cheapened my build by 1500$ while barely lowering performance. Thanks.
EDIT: would it be worth it to replace the 1070 with a 1080 ti?
EDIT: also, would getting an extra 32gb ram be worth it for blender?
sorry, should have said 1500x. As for that motherboard, I don't know.
Idk about overclocking on b350 because I dont have it, but think of it as z270 equivalent. Overclocking is boosting the clock speed of your cpu, and lower grade chipsets do not support it. Quick side note are you planning on any content creation? If so, the 1600 would be your best bet, and if your just gaming you should get the 1400x.
On the 11th
Id reccomend a ryzen 5 1400x or 1600 and a b350 mobo, as they have overclocking enabled.
Should probably wait and get the 1500x or 1600.
EDIT: That is, if you would be willing to sell the mobo and get a am4 one.
Get a normal ssd rather than m.2, as they have better prices, and consider getting a large hard drive for less accessed files, as 128 gb is pretty small.
go with 1700
You guys may have computers, but I haswells on a sandy bridge over kaby lake which is just across the excavator site with bulldozers near cannon lake
Wait for 1080 ti, it is more powerful than titan x pascal and costs 699$
wait for vega
Should I wait for vega or get the 1080 ti?
editing, autocad, blender, streaming, and gaming.
I have in mind editing, autocad, blender, streaming, and gaming.
It's shipping today.
No it hasn't. Preorders are up though.
The 1800x is about the same as a 7700k in single and quad core performance(source: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-7-1800X-vs-Intel-Core-i7-7700K/3916vs3647 ), but it's main use is for content creators.
