Thanks for the info!
Nice build! How's the U2719D for gaming? Is the input lag good? Response time?
I'll mainly be gaming and programming, so this does look like a good buy. No issue on the games either, got a 2080 Ti and have no problem turning down a few settings to get 60FPS in the more demanding games.
How's the monitor in terms of motion blur (response time) and input lag?
I realize this is quite late, but how do you find gaming on the PB258Q? Mainly three things:
Do you notice any ghosting and does motion look clear?
How is input lag?
How is the color banding? Is it true 8-bit?

I'm also thinking of grabbing the monitor. I know you said you didn't plan to game on it, but have you noticed much input lag over your time using it? What about response times? Is there noticeable blur in motion?
Is it just me, or does the PSU look a little crooked?
Do you find the I/O cover on the board to be a little flimsy?
How are temperatures, and are you overclocked?
Creates more stutter for me.
VSYNC is the only solution to tearing. I've tried RTSS and Inspector for frame-capping, and none of them solve tearing, even when capped to 60.
I disable it in all competitive games, and just deal with the tearing, but yeah. Tearing isn't as bad as I'm at ridiculous framerates in those.
I've been using them for 10 years without issue, aside from self-inflicted ones. Mind giving details? Recently, the only poor thing about their products are that they're loud. Only downside really. Out of all the 1080s I've owned, theirs is the loudest, but it also has one of the most well built PCBs I've ever seen. Very high quality. You have to sacrifice some things...
That fast boot program is an option that is by default enabled in other manufacturer's BIOSes. You can't even enable it on MSI boards. Its some kind of RAM check the board does at boot. It can be disabled on ASUS and GB boards for a faster boot.
Just be sure to install using the Windows 8.1/10 option in the BIOS. I have the VIII Hero. Its decent, but I think mine may be defective. Makes random clicking noises. Works fine otherwise. Cut my boot time by a little more than half. From 14 seconds to 6, measured.
Just odd that without VSYNC, my frames would be well over 100, but VSYNC causes them to have the fractional frame drops. Sigh.
I have tried that, but it occasionally does tear, even thought without VSYNC my frames would be well over 100. Just odd that VSYNC would make it drop frames when I have more than 40 leeway.
I found an MSI Sea Hawk X for a little more than the FTW card. Leaning towards that. MSI also seems to have good support.
Not available in Canada.
So ASUS seems like a safe bet. Shame that its come to this now though.
Wasn't saying that. It sounded like who I replied to was implying the cards went kaput because they were overclocking...
Even if they did, should they not? Is the Gaming X not an overclocking card? I'm certainly going to push whichever card I get as far as it can go.
I'm seriously considering the Zotac AMP! Extreme.
SO I guess OP's exploding 1080 and a few others in the comments were all mishaps?

Pretty much only leaves Zotac and Gigabyte.
Yeah, I guess I'll go with the MSI. I saw the BIOS splash for the GB, and you could see all sorts of artifacts around it. I looked it up and apparently its a less than 200p BMP image...
Well, its no better than the MSI Z170A Gaming M7 or the GB Z170X Gaming 7. I'd say if those could be had for cheaper, grab them.
Why the Asus? Because its cheaper?
I've got an MSI Gaming X 1070. Guess I'll grab it. Oh, an do you think the NH L9x65 will be enough for a stock turbo 6700K? Don't have any other cooler atm.
