Comment reply on Majekdor's Completed Build: Brother's Birthday Build

Haha does he close his browser? Funny but incorrect as the 9100F can run both perfectly fine. One month later and you still want to hate on this build for no reason. I am not going to change the main two components of the build just to satisfy you. Just because this isn't what you would have built doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it.

Amazon has the current price at $650 which is absurd. I got it for $150 from Newegg.

Hey! Thanks man! He's loving it :)

As to your question, the 9100F actually had no iGPU so it would be unable to run games. The 9100 non F does have Intel UHD Graphics 630 which I would not recommend for ANY triple-a titles such as Overwatch or Battlefield. It is able to run some old games and less graphically demanding ones but even a really cheap discrete GPU would be tenfold better.

Good build. As another commenter said, you should flip your front fans for better airflow and temps and I would also recommend switching your RAM to slots 2 & 4 instead of 1 & 3.

Good build my guy. Curious as to why you went with such a small Noctua CPU cooler? I'm pretty sure you could get a cooler with a bigger heat sink for the same or less money.

Yes, he web browses but any cpu can do that. I could have gotten an i5 but he doesn't need it so instead, he got some money to spend on games.

Your arguments are pointless and, frankly, a bit embarrassing. There is nothing wrong with this computer and I don't care if you have a problem with my selections for some strange reason. Good day.

I never said that this was supposed to be the best bang for the buck system in the world. Technically everything is a "budget" system unless you can spend as much money as you want. I had around $1500 to build a computer and this is what I decided was best for that price. That's how budgeting works.

I still don't understand why you're mad about the 9100F. You don't know the use case for this computer other than that he games on it, which the 9100F is perfectly capable of.

I asked my brother if he cared about Ray Tracing at all and he said no. He probably doesn't even know what it is, to be honest with you. No reason to spend more if it won't be used. I realize no one says that now, but if you read what I said I stated that "there WERE probably people" who said that. Your argument over the CPU seems to say that you believe that more cores is better than higher clocks for gaming, which is not true. Threadripper has more cores than the 9900K and yet the 9900K is better for gaming. No, it was not meant to be a budget system.

Really? Now you want to attack the fact that I liquid-cooled it? Liquid coolers are not very expensive and look better in this case in my opinion. You're reaching for things to criticize and you're embarrassing yourself my dude.

While, yes, the R5 1600 does have overclocking, you'd be hardpressed to get it stable at 4.2 GHz. The 9100F does it easily. Your claim that 8GB of RAM will "always be enough for gaming" is pure nonsense. Typically, newer games utilize more RAM than older ones. There were probably people who had 4GB of RAM who said that it would always be enough. Well nowadays, I play games that can use over 4GB by themselves. RAM is also not hugely expensive right now so going with 16GB makes more sense. Hyperthreading really doesn't matter much for gaming my guy. Most games rely heavily on single-thread performance, which is why Intel has been the king of gaming. I really don't care that the RX 570 is the kind of price-to-performance or that it destroys the 1660Ti in value since the 1660Ti is just a better card for gaming. I also only bought it for $280, not $300, and last I checked there are no 2060s going for $280.

With what? How would an R5 1600 have been a better choice?

Comment reply on Majekdor's Completed Build: Brother's Birthday Build

Buying 3200 MHz RAM is not a whole lot more expensive than 2666 today. And a Ryzen 5 1600 would have made no sense for this build. I built this for my brother to game on and the 9100F is just flat out better than the 1600 for gaming. It was also cheaper and just a smart purchase for this use case.

Comment reply on Majekdor's Completed Build: Brother's Birthday Build

The reason I didn't go with that is because what I went with is faster. The 9100F is far superior to the 1200 when it comes to gaming, likewise, a 1660Ti destroys a 1050Ti or RX 570. I went with 16GB of RAM simply for future-proofing. Your claim that high-speed RAM is bad for Intel has no basis in fact. The processor has adequate cooling and the faster RAM improves FPS by a few.

Thanks man! He's really only been playing Overwatch and Minecraft on it so far (stock setting, no overclock) and it hasn't been a bottleneck for either. IMO the 9100F is a really good budget gaming processor out of the box. His is staying at a 4+ GHz boost while playing.

I've found their pinging system very intuitive and helpful especially when playing with randoms. If I don't want to use my mic I can just use that to communicate but I also use it even when I'm using my mic to communicate with my team because it's that good.

Yes, on PC it's through Origin but is a surprisingly small game in terms of download size. I agree with the SMG's suffering due to fire rate + clip size but it's definitely something Respawn can fix.
