All joking aside though, this is beauty in a PC if I've ever seen it. I can't comprehend this much awesome in 1080p.

A black hole of cooling would actually be pretty cool. It just sucks all the heat away into an alternate universe of sorts. You'd have to fasten your PC into the core of the planet, but I think it's worth it for the sheer thermal dissipation.

I really dig the build, but if I were given a grand and told to make a strictly work PC, it would be a bit more like this...

The i7 4790 is just the 4790k but it's locked. So you get an iGPU and hyperthreading for a bit cheaper than the 'K' version. Since it can't be OC'd, you don't need a CPU cooler. You can get a nice H97 board or H81/B85 if you wanna save even more money. Since this doesn't have a GPU, you can do with a smaller power supply, however more is more, if you ever wanna throw a GPU into the mix.

Welp, you have the PC now, and you've put it together and it looks super clean, so it's a +1 from me.

I wouldn't say you failed miserably. You just didn't hit the bullseye. Whatever all these comments are saying, you still have a competent build on your hands, it's just being slightly restricted by your GPU in terms of outright performance. I still think that it looks uber clean.

Apart from BIOS and fan headers, I can't really think of anything the differentiates in terms of feature on $150 Z97 boards. Some have more fan headers, some have better BIOS. They mostly have a different array of USB connectors and what not. I think Linus or someone did a video recently where they compared different motherboards and what they do in terms of performance, and the difference was slim or non-existent in most cases.

I don't know what goes on inside a motherboard, so what you see above is probably not very reputable information, but it's all I know. In the end, get what has the best reviews within your price range and colour scheme. Hope that I could help. If I'm wrong, then I'd be grateful if someone would correct me.

Why not? It's a great video card. The only thing that beats it for the money is a 390, and that may not be available everywhere yet.

OK. Here are my thoughts.

I'm not gonna argue with the CPU. It is a brilliant processor. But I do think that if this isn't for heavily multithreaded tasks, then you could easily get away with any Quad-core i5 for a lot less. Nowadays a liquid cooler really isn't necessary. With the likes of the CM Hyper 212 Evo/Noctua series of CPU coolers, even Phanteks/Cryorig coolers are a better option for the money. You could've saved there. No arguments with the motherboard. Ram is ram, but less of it would do if you aren't going to be using memory-heavy programs. SSD is still awesome, the HDD is all the storage you would ever need. I'll get to the video card later. The case, however brilliant, isn't worth the extra cost over something like an Enthoo Pro, in my opinion. The PSU is a bit much for a build with a 750 ti, but more is better, if you want to upgrade.

With all this money that you saved, you can get rid of the 750 ti and get yourself a proper monster of a GPU. If you don't want to completely break the bank, then a 970/390 would be a great upgrade. Further up there is a 390X/980. (Although the 980 wins thoroughly whenOC'd.) At the top is a Fury X/980 ti. (Again, Nvidia wins thoroughly when OC'd.)

That's just my 2 cents. Congrats to everyone who made it to the end. Sorry for being so lengthy about it.

+1 from me. :P

No, the 970's OC'd in SLI beat the 980ti's OC'd in the majority of the benchmarks. You can watch the video here if you like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4RyNNlKbJw When the 970's do get beaten, it's by a very small margin and it's beaten by cards that are much more expensive. (980ti and Titan X)

If you check you the JayzTwoCents video, 970's OC'd in SLI beat any 980ti 9/10 times in games at almost all resolutions. Your statement about VRAM is partially correct, but it doesn't matter because it'll be a long time before 1440p gaming begins to actually use the amount of VRAM that cards have these days. Also, when DX12 comes, VRAM will be able to stack in all DX12 programs, but don't quote me on that.

If he isn't using programs such as CAD that require a FirePro/Quadro to actually function, then he'll be getting a whole lot more bang for the buck if he ends up getting a Radeon or Geforce card.

EDIT: They also aren't all that expensive in some cases. For most people though, the extra money for some FP/Quadro exclusive technologies really won't be well spent.

If he doesn't wanna go to the top end of his budget there always the XFX 280. Great thing about the non-'X' cards is that they can be overclocked to similar or better performance than their 'X' counterparts.

I dig this build, but I think you could've managed your money a bit better in some places. I can see why you'd need/use the 16 gb of memory, (Triple monitor gaming) so no argument there, but the i7 is really not gonna be utilised unless you're using it for heavily hyper-threaded tasks. Downgrading to an i5 would've given you more headroom in terms of graphics inventory, and you could've gotten yourself a 970.

Just my two cents. Still love the build. +1 from me.

I dig the build, but I think you could've gotten better for your money. The H6 looks cool and everything, but there are barely any perks vs an average Z97 or less H97. Even B85/H81 would've worked fine with that chip. The 2 tb hdd could be replaced with a 1tb version and you could add a 250gb SSD.

Otherwise, I love the build. +1 from me.
