Hoping to avoid soldering. I'm really wishing that it might be as simple and removing the outer keyboard fram and transplanting the new one.
Ok...then again I ask how to use a USB cable for audio with the DAC when neither sound card I listed has a USB port on it. And please don't tell me that the sound cards are redundant. I've already stated that I am going for a high-end/audiophile setup.
Ok...but then how does USB work for audio when neither card I am looking at getting, or the onboard motherboard audio section has a USB port on it? At that point is it software driven?
Yeah, I'm not sure on that either. I know I am connecting the sound card to the DAC with a high-quality S/PDIF cable, and the DAC will run to my speakers with a good high end set of coax cables.
I'm pretty sure I don't have anything to worry about since sound card technology had advanced significantly since the last time I actually had a sound card in my rig, which was literally 2008 with an MSI P45 Diamond mobo that came with an Audigy card that was a tiny little bit of PCB. :)
Well, I am not planning on putting my fan speed any higher than 50% at the most. From what I am understanding of the rads I am getting, they are designed for low RPM fan speeds seeing as they are 16 FPI rads and only 30mm thick.
So I am thinking the Shadow Wings may be fine for what I am planning, especially since I am not overclocking anything, just doing a custom loop for consistent cooling across all components. Not like I am running two 2080 Ti's or anything. lol Just a Ryzen 2700X and 2 Strix 1070 Ti's. My main focus is on silence though. Tired of hearing the fans in the system when it is 3 feet away.
I like the charging base of the Roccat more because it can be put in an out of the way part of the desk I will be building later this year (replica of the one done by Workofhart). I tend to not just plan out my PC build, but I play WAAAAAAY ahead of the curve of most people. I plan out the build, the cable management, the desktop management...everything....way before I ever pull the trigger on anything. lol
I like the look of the Model O, especially since it does have a white option...but that's more RGB than I want to put out now. I'm really RGB's out of things. lol
And I have had many Logitech mice in the past, and had a G9x for years, and have been using a Proteus Core since 2015....and I never have luck with their software lasting long. My Proteus is now having issues where it doesn't keep the stored profile AT ALL. I will be in the middle of gaming, and the DPI settings revert to baseline with no notice, forcing me to manually put them back on the fly. Very irritating, and I shouldn't have to keep doing it.
So now...I'm like "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, I'm kicking your @$$!" lol
The money factor is why I haven't pulled the trigger on it sooner. Used to make almost $60k a year, but had an unethical and unprofessional boss who all but blackmailed me to leaving my last position, and forced me to take a job making $12 an hour....was like that for almost 4 years.
Have a new career back making more than my last actual career position, so now my dream can finally become a reality. And while I initially was going to get twin 2080's...the lack of developer support for SLI with the new cards makes me want to just stay with my 1070 Ti's....or save a bit and shell out for something like the Gigabyte 2080 Ti Aorus Xtreme card.
PSU is not an issue though, I thought ahead a few years ago and got an EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2.
Well I feel like a total ID10T now....
Was going through everything, about to start doing a BIOS reset....when out of the corner of my eye I saw the Noctua on the front of my CPU cooler doing its little "I want to spin, but cant seem to get started" dance. Thought I had a fan about to die.
So I took my rig outside, blew the ever loving crap out of it with a more powerful force of wind than my air cans can produce, brought it back in....and as Emeril says...BAM! Back spinning, and idle temps now in the 30-35c range.
I am also leaving the front panel off since from what I read, all Phanteks cases have a massive airflow issue regardless of the model. Makes me want to rethink doing my big custom loop rig in the Evolv X now, despite how awesome that case is.
What voltage is the CPU at? 1.4V
What clock rate is the CPU set at? 2021MHz stock
What case do you have? Phanteks P400S
What spots in the case are fans installed in? 2 in the front (intake), 2 on top (exhaust), 1 on the rear (exhaust). 2 fans on CPU cooler, 1 on the front (push), 1 in the middle (push/pull)
What is the ambient temps of the room? 76 as far as I know. Keep it the same throughout the house.
Is the PC in open air or stuck in a desk cabinet? Open air, sitting on my desk.
When you say idle what is the CPU usage in task manager from background tasks? 0% usage aside from the few Windows processes that are like 0.4-0.7% when they pop up.
And no, I didn't leave the plastic on the CPU cooler. lol I know a lot of people go to that because so many do it...I never see HOW people miss that though. :)
If I am still running hot for some reason, maybe I will go ahead and pull the trigger on either the ASUS Ryujin I was looking at getting, or just do my full custom loop I have been planning for years.
Good points. I had contemplated getting a 2070 SLI rig built, but when I read that the 2070 will not have SLI abilities, my first reaction was "WTF not!?", followed by "Well, there goes THAT idea."
Looks like I might be sticking with my 1070 Ti concept unless things change...which I don't anticipate.
I'm sorry, but as soon as I saw this beast sitting on the ground....I almost had a heart attack.
I'm all for having nature involved in decoration, but just get a fake little plant from IKEA like the rest of us. lol
I have 1 so far....haven't be able to buy the second thanks to my hours at work getting cut severely. Stupid monthly bills now take all my money...HOW DARE THEY!!!
The Russian judge gives it a 5. :P
Seriously though, nice work. SERIOUSLY nice work.
Nope....just something about Red that I always loved. Kind of how I loved Strike Noir cause it was that only Gundam that had bloody PISTOLS. lol
+9000000000 points for using Red Astray in it.
It's actually a 140mm fan. Just looks odd...but that's Noctua for you. At least it isn't baby poop brown. :)
It actually does. I was initially worried about it too after I bought it because I didn't account for the little bit of extra height that the Chromax covers gave the actual heatsink, but it fit.
Barely...bit it fit. And by barely, I am talking MAYBE 1-2mm of space between the glass and the covers. lol
I dont think I c ok old have this on my desk and look at it without having to wear sunglasses. lol
Damn good job though. +1]000
You already have an ASUS Ryujin? I haven't seen them on sale anywhere yet!
I hate you! :P
lol....I only cried for Horde just out of gits and shiggles. Alliance for life here. :)
Finally....someone else willing to give Cerberus the respect they deserve! :)
I was planning a Cerberus theme build in an NZXT Manta....but this gives me all new ideas. Well played.
FOR THE HORDE!!!
I eventually got it to work, but now I can't remember how I did for the life of me. lol
That's good...I would have taken it off if it had one on it. lol
Should have seen the previous incarnation of my PC.
1 128GB SSD (boot)
2 256GB SSD's
1 500GB SSD
2 1TB HDDS.
I actually just consolidated everything. into a few drives with this build. And believe it or not, the new 500gb M.2 is at 90% capacity just from my main games. lol
Never had it. You might be thinking of the reference 1070 Ti cards. ASUS cards didn't have it.
Coming from a 2008 era Cooler Master CM 680 II case.....hell yeah! :)
Thanks for the kind words. And I am considering that as well (the single card option). My timeline for the other phases of my build are spread out pretty well.
the new Phanteks case comes out at the end of August/beginning of September from what Phanteks has told me, but my custom loop isn't going to happen til nerxt year, like around April or so. So if I do go with the newer cards, I will more than likely be good on waterblocks for them by that time.
Will still be going SLI though, not so much for the game performance increase as it is looks/aesthetics. lol I'm trying to get into the leagues of Snef, JP Modified, Classified Systems, Singularity, hell...even Jayztwocents.....and other prominent modders/builders. :)
Yeah....not seeing a button to add pictures. :(
Well, yeah, I know about that part...I just don't remember which option it is that posts the list of the parts with prices and pictures in other websites. I tried all options on that toolbar and all it ever posted was a bunch of code.
So I know very little about timings...would it really make any difference for a rig that won’t be overclocked? Going to be running a Ryzen 2700X with a pair of ASUS 1070 Ti’s
So this one is a version WITH a USB install drive, correct?
That’s the stock bridge that the motherboard comes with.
I’m looking fo something better looking tha;that since my build is going to be high end....and high end rigs don’t settle for stock crap. I’m leaning towards the EVGA bridges cause I think those are th best looking ones, and I can mod it fairly easily.
So I have begun sourcing the parts for my rendition of your desk design. Granted, I don't quite have a need for a desk al long as yours, so I am scaling it down a bit.
My problem now is that I can not find those bloody angled Capita legs anywhere except Amazon for almost 5 times what the MSRP is, but even then, IKEA America no longer carries them.
I have reached out to IKEA UK to see if they will ship overseas, but I am not hopeful. But I will not give up on my plans! NEVER!!
I'm also planning on getting that new Evolv X case that just debuted at Computex and do some case modding to it with Mahogany. Front and Top panel done to look exactly like the stock ones, but in that luxurious rich, red wood treatment. :)
And no sooner do I say that than I realize that the model number isn't PC-"ZERO"11...it is PC-"OH"11....
Lian-Li should really make that distinction a little better. lol
Must be hidden....I've tried every variation of finding that case in the listings and haven't seen it once.
Yeah, it's just for personal use like web browsing and games. But since I don't play competitive games like CSGO or Overwatch, I'm not too concerned about response time or anything. My focus is to get as many wires off the desk as I can.
Right now the only ones I am looking at is the Corsair and the Roccat Leadr.
Right now, yeah, primarily it is a gaming rig. But I am hoping sometime this year to start up a YouTube channel, so Ryzen will be better suited for that. But that is just a hope for right now.
I've looked at 144Hz monitors, and that high a resolution actually causes me migraines. I used to drool over the thought of having that ASUS 34" curved widescreen, but the first time I saw one, I was in pain in less than 5 minutes. :(
And almost every He f my lists prior to this had an 8700k on it. But after seeing that Ryzen is going to use the AM4 socket up to at lease 2020 and possibly further, I would rather see where Ryzen can take me. Been Intel for too long, and honestly done see them giving us much in terms of improved products the last few iterations of CPU's.
And yeah, I know I only need 16gb of ram, but when I built my rig originally, the Kingstons I got were buy one, get one free...so why not. lol
I'm not real big on upgrading every few years. Besides, with the games I play, a single 1080 Ti is beyond overkill. I am doing 2 so my PC can eventually be a showpiece/centerpiece for a building service and YouTube channel I would like to start. Already have it created, just need to make some content now. :)
This is my current rig. I was able to get a new case and cooling system over Christmas last year, but then in January my GPU died totally which is why there isn't one listed.
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
I already have an EVGA 1000 P2 in my current rig that I will transfer over.
Well, I haven't upgraded in almost a decade now. I am still running a Sabertooth Z77 / i5-3570K rig that has no GPU cause my MSI 970 bricked in January (worst. timing. EVER!).
I think I am going to go Ryzen at this point now. Strongly looking at the ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VI EXTREME / Ryzen 1800 setup now. Starting to sour on Intel after doing a lot of reading and talking to people now.
It is primarily a gaming rig, but I wanted to put something together that will last me 7-10 years like my Z77/i5-3570K rig has. I don't upgrade every time something new comes out.
And the Ti's are $100 cause I have a line on a supplier that can sell them for that low. Problem is, most people would have to buy 5-10 MINIMUM to get that price. But I have good connections. :)

My reason for going Z270 is pretty much for looks. My plan was to do an all black build, and the best looking board I found for that was the EVGA Z270 Classidfied K. Paired with my 2 EVGA 1080's, it was going to look pretty slick when water cooled.
I know for many it doesn't make a lot of sense to NOT get the latest generation, bu that was just my design aesthetic. And not many Ryzen boards pull that all black look off the way I want.
And I will NEVER buy MSI again despite the fact that the Gaming series is predominantly black. They totally screwed me on my last GPU purchase. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, I'm kicking your ***!
Very true....to me, Z390 is to LGA1151 what Vista was to Windows. Purely a stopgap measure. They rushed it just to answer back to Ryzen.
I'm still not convinced I need to even upgrade to a Z370 from my Z77 board. I am strongly considering going Z270 for my rebuild at this point.
In my head, I am channeling Tom Hank's "There's no crying in baseball" line, only I am screaming "There's no time Vader should EVER be PINK!" lol
Oh EVGA absolutely has. But with the potential to buy a ASUS 1080 Ti for less than $200 right now...I am just weighing all my options.
MSI lost my business for life after a 10+ year relationship with them. So I am very much looking to make sure I don't get bent over by another company the way MSI did me.
Yeah...I've known that since Z370 dropped. I'm asking about the motherboard itself, not CPU's.
