That is so something beyond appealing... pulchritudinous? Clean build, living machinery with blood and steel. You are an artist.
Both Xeon (e3-1220 at that time) and AMD (FX-8350) had their turn to be on top of my list until I chose i5. All 3 can do some rendering and differencies are not that huge. GTX 960 for Cycles is double as fast as any of processors that fit into my budget.
I dropped AMD for 2 reasons: 1) I thought that Intel i5 stock cooler is good enough and there is no need to buy an aftermarket cooler nor pay for extra heat I don't need. Intel's stock cooler does work but just barely. Eventually had to buy that cooler. 2) i5 has better single thread performance. For what? Who knows beforehand.
2 reason for not Xeon: 1) i5 has integrated GPU. For what? Just in case. 2) i5 and Xeon had basically same prices at local dealers. Performance is almost par too. So I basically chose integrated graphics over ECC support.
E3-1231 is great. But also more expensive. Today after one year not using integrated GPU I could select Xeon.
You should have seen my "cable management" before I installed 212 EVO and rerouted almost everything. It was a quick and dirty mess. Now less. I agree things could be wired better. Perhaps after some good night sleep. Still learning by doing.
