They sound good and are comfortable. There's not much else that can be said about them. If I had more money, I would've gotten a pair of M50x's.

The M40s are in my opinion the most neutral sounding of Audio-Technica's M-series, which is generally what you want for mixing. I previously had the ATH-M20s.

My M40x have been with me for many years, and they're not changing. This was the one area were the theme of the build would not be applicable. I'm so not changing them for a Corsair headset. 4 stars, as the pads are bad, and usually need replacing. Replaced them with Brainwavz Angled Ear Pads, and sound incredible... sadly, the ear pads have started to peel after about two years of use.

The little brother of the M50x and still plenty wonderful. I've owned the same pair for a couple years now and they have always made me happy. Great sound for listening to high-quality audio but also crystal clear for gaming and chatting.

The sound quality of these headphones are amazing, especially for the price I got them for. They are comfortable, and block out a big portion of the sound.

Earpads aren't great and I found the headband to be irritating. Had to replace the pads and add a soft headband cover
