What Do you Prefer?

Hey guys.

So I'm having some trouble deciding between these two monitors: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/parts/compare/benq-monitor-gw2765ht%2Cbenq-monitor-xl2720z/

The one monitor is an 1440p IPS panel at 60hz which means it will look really good (I don't know if my GTX 970 can run games at 1440p).

The other monitor is not an IPS panel but it's 1080p at 144hz which means it will run a lot smoother (also at 1080p it will put less stress on the GPU).

Which one would you choose if you were in my situation? What do you prefer when it comes to gaming, the better looking experience or the smoother one? I'm also open to any recommended or suggested monitors you know of.

Thanks for your help in advance. Your responses are greatly appreciated.

It depends on the sort of gaming you're doing. If you are a competitive CS:GO player, 144Hz is better. If you're more into single player games, then a better looking monitor might be a better choice for you. That BenQ still has a fantastic response time for an IPS panel, and is an amazing deal, so that's what I'd choose personally, but it's up to you.

What would you suggest for games like League of Legends, Elder Scrolls Online, Star Wars Battlefront (The New One) and other new double/triple A titles?

I'd go for the IPS one.

Depends on your viewing range. At "normal" monitor ranges (<3ft) that 27" 1080 monitor will look a bit pixelated but the 1440 should be better. Oddly enough, Wikipedia has an article on it... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimum_HDTV_viewing_distance

I'd prefer whichever one gave a "finer" resolution at my viewing distance.

Id go for the 1080p 144hz because the ips one has a 4ms response time

Generally beneath 5ms is not noticeable.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm thinking too. Apparently I should get a 1440p monitor or higher because "1080p is outdated and obsolete, 1440p is the new standard".
