is dual playing dead?

I have been trying to find good multiplayer games, and the problem is that most of those are Shooters, Racing Games, Super Smash Bros or Mario party.

How come hack-n-slash platform multiplayer games aren't a thing anymore? I remember the old days of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks in 2005. I haven't seen games like that ever since. All mortal kombat games are the standard 3D fighting with upgraded graphics.

All hack n' slash/beat em up/brawler games are very God of War-like. Just single-player.

It's disappointing.

There has definitely been a sharp decline in multiplayer brawler games, to the point where I'd say it's pretty much dead. I suggest you take a look at two upcoming games, Bleeding Edge and Streets of Rage 4.

Bleeding Edge is a 4v4 online multiplayer brawler developed by Ninja Theory. I've played the beta, and I'd say it's pretty fun. Streets of Rage 4 does have 2 player online as well as 4 player local co-op, but I don't think it exactly fits what your looking for. Definitely keep an eye on Bleeding Edge though, it releases this month.
