Radeon vii vs 2070 super

Should I go for the 2070 super or Radeon vii. My target is 1080p 144hz aaa games max settings. Have a good enough power supply and enough budget. Once I buy one I need them to go for a looooong time as I won’t be able to upgrade.

Not according to FutureMark: https://benchmarks.ul.com/compare/best-gpus

Take that with a grain/mountain of salt, AMD architectures generally perform much better in synthetic workloads then real world performance.

On average VII is only 2-5% ahead of a 5700XT and beat by a reference clocked 2070 Super.

It is always up to workload.

Not really as the above benchmarks show in a variety of workloads.

It's why AMD killed VII when Navi launched it just wasn't a viable option with a cheaper for them to make and sell option being so close in performance.

Except that workload is "AAA games at 1080P@144Hz", which sounds like a nvidia specialty. I was fairly shocked to find Radeon VIIs still available, as they haven't been produced for months. Since they run ~$100 more than the otherwise equal 2070 super, it is easy to see why they haven't sold.

5700XT might be an option: here's yet another webpage/benchmark (which appears to cover exactly what the OP asked for [at least the first graph]. https://www.gpucheck.com/compare/amd-radeon-rx-5700-xt-vs-nvidia-geforce-rtx-2070-super/amd-ryzen-7-3700x-vs-amd-ryzen-7-3700x/ultra/ultra/-vs-?lang=en&currency=usd

AMD is superior in the CPU market, however, they still have a lot to learn when it comes to GPUs. Id say 2070 SUPER
