Graphic Design / Production Art PC

Hi guys, I got the freedom to build a PC for work. I'm currently using an old Mac so this will be a big upgrade. I would like to see both options when picking a CPU (AMD or INTEL).

  • Budget: $3000-$3500
  • Location: $CAD
  • Use: No Gaming! Heavy usage of Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator. I don't use much of Premiere but would like to have the option there if needed.
  • Peripherals required (monitor, keyboard/mouse, etc): 1 primary monitor for photoshop work & proofing artwork files (I would like to have 3 HDMI outputs).
  • Operating System required: Windows 10

What resolution would you want for the monitor? And it says primary, does that imply you need a second as well?

Here's the part list though, no monitor per previous question

I can't design a list based on my knowledge, but I do know someone who can help. Wait a bit please.

Here is one with just the system for a little under $3000. I have no clue what peripherals are good so I didnt add them.

How much memory did you have in the old Mac, and do you have a guesstimate of how much you'll ideally want for the kind of work you do? I would arbitrarily guess 32GB but that might be high or low depending on the size of your designs.

I'm currently still using a Mac Pro (Mid 2012) with 24 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3 of Memory. I'll be at least opening various Illustrator files every day of the week (food packages mostly).

Ok, then let's assume that 32GB is OK as long as there are slots open to expand if needed.

1 HDMI and 3 displayport from that GPU, I imagine that there are other options with other 2070 Super brands but I didn't check.

Chose the case for a reasonable airflow vs quiet compromise. If this is a high usage computer I'd be real tempted to put in an 80+ Platinum or Titanium PSU simply to reduce PSU heat output, but it's a nice to have not a must have.

It's quite possible that you could back down on the GPU but it depends on whether you do a lot of GPU intensive effects.

PS those 2009-2012 MP's were beasts. I still have one running in the basement as a cluster data node.
