Is mixing 2 Different GPU's for rendering possible/good?

I understand Sli requires both GPU's need to be the same for games, but my main focus is solely GPU rendering.

I have an old GTX 1080 and I was wondering if I could just buy any other GPU; for example, a "2070 Super" to use along for rendering? Will it work if I have 2 different types of GPU's in my PC?

Thank you!

what type of rendering would even require 2 gpu's?

what is your software? is it even an option with your software?

of the 3-4 editing software I have used, never saw an option for gpu 1, and gpu 2. That is why I say choose your software wisely. If that software is even available to select more than one gpu

I'd say "probably not, but check your software". This type of thing is specific to whatever you use to render on the GPU. No idea even if another 1080 will improve things.

Arnold Beta GPU rendering, but I was hoping it would work on any GPU rendering software.
