Moving to a mitx case, need suggestions on what to do.

I'm coming from a fractal define r5 and want to switch to a Fractal Core 500 so I'm going to need to buy some new parts.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/34kFvn

Here is what I've been looking at as a reference. I want to keep my CPU and CPU cooler, the ram, and (hopefully) the PSU. I've read that the one I have might be a bit too big for most mitx cases so I might not be able to use it.

So what I need:

  • Motherboard -GPU (thinking about a 1070). Says my current 780ti fits surprisingly but I want to upgrade that anyway. -Maybe PSU if needed? Looks like pcpartpicker is telling me it will for sure be too big.

All for the core 500. What do you guys suggest in terms of what I should get? Thanks!

If you want to keep your old chip, hunt around for a second hand Z97/Z87 board (this one’s sitting on eBay right now, but I’m sure Craigslist, r/hardwareswap, or somewhere similar will have something available)

Thanks for the reply! Why the 1660ti? Just wondering if its worth getting over the 1070

1660TI is equivalent to a 1070.

If you want something faster, a 2060 is your next step up (performance is more like a GTX 1070TI)

Oh ok. Id probably go with the 1070 then since its cheaper. Also, the Maximum impact motherboard is super expensive, any alternatives?

Well, I'm afraid there isn't anything cheaper (unless you buy a whole new chip).

I did find this, but I probably would ask around (people may have some older bits left over from upgrades)
