Processor changes and OS reinstallations

My upgrade plans are to get either a Ryzen 5 2400G, and upgrade to a Ryzen 3xxx later, or an i5-8400 and upgrade to a Coffee Lake Refresh or Comet Lake CPU later on. My understanding is that I should be fine swapping out the CPU without reinstalling the OS, but I wasn't sure if that was still true if I'm also switching from one processor generation to another. Can anyone confirm one way or the other?

An OS install is only required if you change mobo

Expect to need to update your motherboard BIOS, but yeah, you shouldn't need to reinstall your OS if you're just doing a CPU upgrade, even if it's on a new generation.
