Windows 10 on Amazon

I am just planning on building my first PC and I have been searching for the best place to buy windows 10. The cheapest is Amazon but there are several reviews stating that they have been sold faulty product keys. I was wondering if anyone knows whether this would be a problem if I bought one.

Thanks in advance!

I'm seeing $130 for full retail Windows 10 on Amazon. This is normal. Buying tips:

  1. Get a full retail copy. OEM licenses don't have the same transfer rights or support.

  2. Be careful who you buy from on Amazon. The product pages aggregate reviews of purchases from different sellers- some of which may be scammers or otherwise selling untrustworthy or illegitimate keys. Ensure you are buying from a legit source! You can also buy keys straight from Microsoft, or off the shelf at some electronics retail stores. Prices generally don't vary much- if it's $80ish dollars from a legit source, it's probably an OEM key, and if it's cheaper than that it is likely grey-market, obtained by stolen funds, or a scam. Avoid these!

  3. Get the USB version if it doesn't cost more. Can't have too many spare USB drives around! :)

  4. You can always give various Linux distros a shot if you don't want to spend the money right away. Linux gaming has come a long way, especially with increased support from Valve/Steam; non-gaming tasks often have good (free!) options for software like LibreOffice as well.

You must pay for Windows according to the ToS.

Use of Windows must be done with a legitimate product key.

Per Microsoft:

You are authorized to use this software only if you are properly licensed and the software has been properly activated with a genuine product key or by other authorized method.
