Alright, here’s what I’d suggest

  • H81M-E (swap the i3 for an i5)

  • 390X

  • 8GB DDR3 (maybe add a 2GB stick to get 10GB?)

However, I’d suggest getting a new PSU, as OEM units aren’t usually that great (so something like a CX650/M would be more suitable)

You also didn’t specify storage, but if you’ve got a few HDDs lying around, you could use some of those (with a 240GB or so SSD thrown in for speed and responsiveness)

GeneticParadox submitter 1 Build 1 point 5 days ago

can you specify which ram sticks to use? and will the i5 i have fit that board?

ImperiousBattlestar 1 point 5 days ago
  • The RAM sticks suggested was this one

https://www.amazon.com/HP-1600D3-8G-S-SAMSUNG-2rx8-Pc3-12800u/dp/B00BMH1KFE

and any of the 2GB sticks (but be careful about mixing and matching RAM)

  • The 2400 is too old for that board (it's LGA1156, whereas the H81 is LGA1150)

i see ok

F3atherz 1 point 4 days ago

I don't think the H81 chipset supports the i5 2400.

ImperiousBattlestar 1 point 4 days ago

I meant swapping the i3 for a 4th gen i5

F3atherz 1 point 4 days ago

Ah ok mb :)
