My very first custom PC build - opinions appreciated!

I'm looking to build my first PC within the next week or so. Been looking at some guides, parts and videos of video assembly. Would like some opinions about this spec and the price. Is it any good, overpriced or too powerful for "regular" gaming? And is any components bottlenecking the PC and should i get more fans than the 2 included in the case?

Looks good! Whats the reasoning behind the changes? Noticed you went down to a 550W PSU and changed CPU cooler and GPU?

  • CPU: you already chose a Z370 and an aftermarket-cooler, so I upgraded the i5-8600 in your build to an i5-8600k
  • cooler: the Hyper 212 Evo will keep your CPU cool, but the Mugen 5 will allow for a nice overclock
  • MOBO: a couple dollars more to get all those sweet features. The shield for the ports (don't know the real name), nice optics, blin-bling, on-board WIFI
  • RAM: went down to 8GB, took the money from that to upgrade other parts. 8GB is cool for gaming and the MOBO let's you add another 2x4GB in the future (if you need it). Also 2800 CL15 is a bit faster than 2666 CL16
  • SSD: I know it is the cheapest on here, but it works pretty well.
  • GPU: there is no need to pay those extra 57$, just for Strix. The MSI Duke is damn fine aswell.
  • case: I didn't change it, because you chose it. The one I usually recommend is the Fractal Design Focus G
  • PSU: 550W is minimum for this build. Overclocks do need more power, but a 750W PSU will never be useful if you don't get dual GPUs (or get a full AMD build with R7 CPU and RX Vega GPU)
