Description

Built this boi to mine gold. Was a personal challenge to rig something up in a milk crate, and it came out quite nicely.

Not loud enough to keep me up at night, but I keep fans above 60% to keep temps around 60c.

The Zotac 1080 TI runs at 75% fan speed and I can hardly hear it. The Zotac 1060 mini runs at leas 6cs hotter than everything else, so I have that fan boosted. The EVGA 1080 TI runs a bit cooler now that I have that external fan blowing into it, but its fans have quite a bit of hum at 65%.

Been experimenting with different power draws. I've been keeping the 1060 at about 80% power to help combat its temps and still maintain about the same hashing power. everything else is at least at 95% power.

Nice! Definitely would upvote if you weren't using it for mining! lol

Insert look of shame Miner... taking our GPUs... Taking my +1 for creative case.

You should put it on one of those four legged robots that walk around and you can't kick over. It'll just stroll around your room and hang out with the Roomba.

everyone has been up in arms about GPU prices but have you seen what miners have done to zip ties!?!?! i spent like $3k on ties..... rip my roi

ya ikr its crazy how they made GPUs so expensive

Despite what everyone says about how much they do not like you mining on this and how your "stealing our gpus", they forget to realize that miners are not the main reason for the "gpu inflation", they are a contributing factors just like techtubers and pc gamers. I do believe that the companies let the market inflate on purpose but its all about what the company wants for the consumers.

With that out of the way, it is a rather interesting build. Definitely a +1 for the ingenuity, +1 for the creativity, and +1 for the efficiency. -1 for the extreme bottleneck.

Enjoy your rig and RIP on the zip-ties, you probably used a couple hundred of them for this build. I hope you get your investment back in a "decent amount of time".

One question though: Are you mining these cards on stock speeds or did you overclock them?

hhaha thanks for the comment! wheres the bottleneck tho ? this cpu is perfect, runs about 40% when teamviewer+chrome+mining+afterburner is up. Its got onboard graphics too so that i can use it without pausing mining.

Yeah been burning thru zip-ties, especially since I just had to RMA the PSU. I didn't overclock them, been mining at stock speeds, 80% power.

The bottleneck comes from my ability to have my brain and eyes see that there is not a bottleneck. I was having a moment(I was looking a lot of builds on here when I came across yours.) I just seen the reply now. How much have you made on mining so far?

hahha that's funny. I've almost paid it back! got lucky this week since I mined RVN all summer and im still holding. makin ab $2.50 per day on nicehash right now, so even tho its not nearly what it used to be, I'm confident I will make my money back sometime in 2019 (:

Tell me about it! I'm helping a friend build a mining rig. Only drawback are the funds and time. I'm happy for you! Keep doing what your doing.

HaHa Shame on you. Everyone knows that a Celeron will Bottleneck your GPU!!

Just kiding, how is your Hashrate and the power consumption? Will it take Years to get your ROI?

  • 1 point

yes, it will take 30 years, that's why i made the investment!

Here's hoping the Great Crypto Crash comes soon and someone who use those GPUs for something other than ruining the PC component market gets them.

  • 3 points

that was actually my goal when making this investment! i don't give a **** about decentralized currencies or extremely fast transaction speeds, i literally just want to ruin the PC component market!

Yeah, sure. Live it up while you can, it'll cone back to bite you sooner or later.

I love how its in a milk crate. Wouldnt you save some energy by turning of the rgb? Also, I think the fans are blowing into each other.

had to position the 1060 and 1080 that way if that's what you're talking about. i have an external going into the intake of both cards.

Looks..... Like something a milk man would be able to afford....... There's a load of crate PCs, look for builds about 5 to 100 bucks and you will find some hilarious ones. :P

But why bother building that to mine gold when you can just get a crappy refurbished PC for 0-200 that would be horrible, but still, it's only for mining, which I don't agree with.....

or why not illuminated in a aquarium full of oil

good idea even if I do not really approve

If you wanted to build a mining rig you should've gone with a 1070 or 1060. Because according to Nvidia GDDR5 is better for mining than the GDDR5X

Um... Mining? With custom cables? In a milk crate? Sorry, why? Otherwise: Please stop stealing our GPUs...

  • 3 points
  1. no custom cables, my psu happen to be modular.
  2. milkcrate because it has a solid base for a motherboard, the most optimal airflow, and the perfect amount of space for my components.
  3. i did not steal, i paid slightly above MSRP, just like you can.

Ahaha sorry saw the orange cables and thought u used custom... Milkcrate, understandable... needs more RGB and a fan hub though...

slightly above MSRP
