Description

Hey everyone, I'd like to say thank you for the continued show of support And thank you for being a great community. I try to respond when I can to as many messages. But thanks again.

BUILT:1/1/13

EDIT: Just bought some leds.

I build this about a week ago .. been planing for this for 4-5 months and finally got everything

when everything finally came in i found out that one of the graphics cards was a mis-pick (different model than what I wanted) when I returned I they gave me free two day shipping, and it just came in today

me and my dad built a pc when I was 11, out of spare parts ( at the time my dads computer repair was helping us get by) ... but in 2009 he passed away ... and i wanted to dedicate this build to him, so building this at 15 would of made him proud

also people don't bug me about the power supply if it can handle two 670's overclocked and a overclocked i7 3770k to 4.4GHz its ok in my book

please comment good or bad, also i know the cable management isn't the best but.. oh well

For storage I use a 2tb seagate barracuda- $80

Where is this?

There isn't an Alienware sticker on there anywhere in the pictures. There's a Razer logo, but no Alienware. Alienware=pretty nice PC's, but overpriced. Razer=really nice peripherals and systems, and a price to go with all of the features you get.

There is an EVGA sticker, an Apple sticker, another EVGA sticker, an HTC sticker, and a Razer sticker. No alienware sticker whatsoever

First off, I'm very moved by your dedication of this build to your father. Thank you very, very much for sharing that with us. You did an amazing job, ;) even with Ultra brand PSU :P - I think you did great job and I really enjoyed seeing your pictures of the build. Once again thank you for sharing this. ~IamApropos

As you can see not only because you have a great build but people respect your dedication for your dad with this build, I don't think I've seen a build rank this high even on some amazing builds ;) you mentioned you have plans for a future build? I'd love to hear about that build hit me up on that link above if you'd like to talk shop.

My dad passed right as my mother was able to get a better job to support us kids, and at the time I had a part time job with a farmer in the area, I was using the money to save up for it and when we had our financial situation ironed out. My mom pitched in the last couple hundred dollars for a birthday present. Trust me when I look back years later, the money I was saving could've gone to help out my family, but both my parents insisted for me to keep it saying that they wanted me to be able to save towards my goal.

It is a nice case, but some of the power cables were a little short

  • 2 points

I had no problem with power cables. I used a Corsair PSU so maybe since they are the same company they made the cables fit with there normal cases. Which reminds me...I should upload my build soon. lol

Everything about this build is nice. iirc that is a tier 1 power supply.

  • 2 points

A sweet rig in any book, by any standard. Top notch components, top to bottom.

Although, for that budget, this could have been done with an LGA 2011.

Every component is amazing. Well, maybe except the Kingston memory, and PSU. But meh, with the build as awesome as this, that might not be very important overall.

Very nice to build your own. I like it you did it for your dad.Nice memory you have of building one together.

I worked for a large Semi-conductor company when my children were young. When my daughter was a teen, I tried to get her, to let me show her how to build her own computer, she would not comply, just not interested. I love my girl, but good thing she married a engineer from Microsoft, or she would be lost troubleshooting, and maintaining her rigs.

  • 2 points

I'm pretty new to creating a pc and i really don't know much about this kind of stuff. Does this build have wireless or wired internet connection? I'm thinking about buying this and i dont see anything on the list that connects it to the internet. Do I have to add something to it? Anyone who can answer this please respond.

  • 2 points

I would assume wired because I don't see a Wi-Fi adapter in his pictures nor in his parts list.

  • 2 points

So you're saying i don't need to buy anything extra to this build? Do i need to buy Storage?

  • 2 points

I would say you want to ideally have a 1+ TB hard drive and some kind of SSD for Windows and some games.

  • 2 points

So I'm going to have to add that to my cart to add to this build?

  • 2 points

You don't have to (as SSD's can get REALLY expensive), but it's nice to have. As for the Wi-Fi adapter, if you plan on using wireless internet on your computer, then you do need an adapter, however, if you plan on using a wired connection (that is, via an ethernet cable), then you'll find a port for that on every motherboard.

Not to sound cruel, but I really don't see why this is rated this high... If you break it down it all just boils down to a story, which is cool, but this is a computer building community, so why are we ranking off of stories instead of builds? The hardware isn't all that well, at all, and lots of wasted $ on unnecessary parts. A $2,000 PC without a SSD boot drive. Parts list is lacking. Pictures aren't that good. Cable management with just stock cables is OK. Description is very lacking, and the story isn't even really there... No real customization compared to other builds that just trump and tower over this.
An apple sticker... :| Clocks aren't good at all. There are so many other builds that are way better balanced, better pictures, better explanations, better cable management, tons of customization, and have a fraction of the upvotes.
If this was on Imgur or Reddit I'd understand the upvotes, but this is a site about builds/stories, not just the story.

I know it sounds harsh, but you do have a point there. Makes me feel bad for the next 3 builds below it where a ton more work and creativity was put into them, but got severely outvoted:

It's not bad. The mouse is a wireless (and I personally hate wireless mice for gaming), but no big deal. I wouldn't have gone for Home Premium, but, again, no big deal. Nice SLI 670s, and everything else looks great. 8GB of RAM is great now, but you'll obviously have to upgrade in two or so years to keep up.

Really a great system. As you said, the cable management isn't that good, but considering it's your first build it really doesn't matter right now. Fix it up when you can/want.

Description EDIT: Just bought some leds I build this about a week ago .. been planing for this for 4-5 months and finally got everything when everything finally came in i found out that one of the graphics cards was a mis-pick (different model than what I wanted) when I returned I they gave me free two day shipping, and it just came in today me and my dad built a pc when I was 11, out of spare parts ( at the time my dads computer repair was helping us get by) ... but in 2009 he passed away ... and i wanted to dedicate this build to him ,so building this at 15 would of made him proud also people don't bug me about the power supply if it can handle two 670's overclocked and a overclocked i7 3770k to 4.4GHz its ok in my book please comment good or bad, also i know the cable management isn't the best but.. oh well EDIT:ALSO ,PEOPLE PLEASE DON'T FEEL SORRY FOR ME...thanks report Part List Component Selection Owner Rating Price Where View Full Part List Price Breakdown CPU Completed Build Photo Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core

Hakumisoso [2 Builds] 65 points 11 months ago Apple sticker is not so beautiful... permalink parent report reply

coolman 38 points 10 months ago What about allienware sticker, it sucks your money alive! permalink parent report reply

GeorgeBD 4 points 5 months ago Where is this? permalink parent report reply

coromd 6 points 3 months ago There isn't an Alienware sticker on there anywhere in the pictures. There's a Razer logo, but no Alienware. Alienware=pretty nice PC's, but overpriced. Razer=really nice peripherals and systems, and a price to go with all of the features you get. permalink parent report reply [comment deleted]

coromd 4 points 2 months ago ...what? Alienware's don't use any more power than any other computer of equal specs. Gaming computers in general use buttloads of power. permalink parent report reply [comment deleted]

coromd 5 points 2 months ago I don't think any gaming PC is energy efficient. It's like a tractor that gets 50MPG while towing a heavy load. permalink parent report reply [comment hidden]

XDestroyer 3 points 5 months ago Well, judging by this build... it looks like he has all the money in the world haha. permalink parent report reply

yoyoyo109 4 points 4 months ago I'm fixing to start up a build of my own, i'm not filthy rich but I see desktops like this as an investment that you need to spend money on so they last you as long as possible before obsolete permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 18 points 9 months ago I have no hate against apple, my mom has a macbook 2012 retina and i love it for internet browsing but not for gaming permalink parent report reply [comment hidden]

IamApropos [2 Builds] 18 points 15 months ago First off, I'm very moved by your dedication of this build to your father. Thank you very, very much for sharing that with us. You did an amazing job, ;) even with Ultra brand PSU :P - I think you did great job and I really enjoyed seeing your pictures of the build. Once again thank you for sharing this. ~IamApropos permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 5 points 15 months ago thanks permalink parent report reply

IamApropos [2 Builds] 4 points 15 months ago As you can see not only because you have a great build but people respect your dedication for your dad with this build, I don't think I've seen a build rank this high even on some amazing builds ;) you mentioned you have plans for a future build? I'd love to hear about that build hit me up on that link above if you'd like to talk shop. permalink parent report reply

ryanvoyles1 4 points 15 months ago I saw on the PSU scale chart... thing... on the second or first level I think. The brand isn't too great but that one psu is good. permalink parent report reply

xmiidnight [1 Build] 9 points 15 months ago I have pretty much this same build saved under "dream builds" permalink parent report reply

Chava990x 5 points 15 months ago Im about to cry, this, is, amazing!... ;u; permalink parent report reply

Apach3 [1 Build] 2 points 15 months ago i can't find any criticisms about the build itself; however, i'd like to hear your opinion on the Tiamat 7.1 headset. not very many people were happy with it, especially with the microphone. how do you like it? permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 2 points 15 months ago Its ok i guess sound is good ,but you better have a decent sound card, but then again I haven't really tested it on a game permalink parent report reply

Fuzsion [1 Build] 2 points 15 months ago Sorry for you're loss man, amazing build and very nice parts. permalink parent report reply

TheGamerator [1 Build] 2 points 15 months ago Nice build and the 600T is a great case :D. Sorry for your loss. permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 0 points 15 months ago It is a nice case, but some of the power cables were a little short permalink parent report reply

TheGamerator [1 Build] 2 points 15 months ago I had no problem with power cables. I used a Corsair PSU so maybe since they are the same company they made the cables fit with there normal cases. Which reminds me...I should upload my build soon. lol permalink parent report reply

Smily 2 points 15 months ago Everything about this build is nice. iirc that is a tier 1 power supply. permalink parent report reply

johnwaskins 2 points 15 months ago A sweet rig in any book, by any standard. Top notch components, top to bottom. Although, for that budget, this could have been done with an LGA 2011. Every component is amazing. Well, maybe except the Kingston memory, and PSU. But meh, with the build as awesome as this, that might not be very important overall. permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 2 points 14 months ago hey dont down the beast cause these things overclock like a boss got it to 1800mhz permalink parent report reply

that1personxx 2 points 14 months ago Any thoughts on the BenQ? Is it worth the money? permalink parent report reply

Evshrug 2 points 13 months ago I'm curious about this too, I've read great things about the BenQ from other sources. permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 2 points 13 months ago Yeah this monitor is a beast i have my PC and Xbox hooked to it and the 3d is awesome permalink parent report reply

Scottk2000 2 points 13 months ago I am new to pc building still doing research before I start building and one question that this build brings up for me the noob is, I thought you only need one video card why is there two does that really make it go better? permalink parent report reply

Scottk2000 2 points 13 months ago Nevermind I answered my own question, just had to go do a little more researching. permalink parent report reply

Winniedapoonbear 2 points 13 months ago I'm almost in tears I wish I had this relationship with my dad. permalink parent report reply

purpletalon 2 points 10 months ago wish i had as much money as these people as my computer really sucks. permalink parent report reply

Really2n2 2 points 10 months ago This gave me feels, It's funny how my dad and I also built spare computers, and owns a computer repair store, but he's not dead, sorry for your lost and nice build though. permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 3 points 10 months ago thanks permalink parent report reply

coolman 2 points 10 months ago Buy monitor which support 120 frames per second? Your freaking eyeballs can't even see 120 pictures per second >:(), unless you have god-like eyeballs. permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 5 points 10 months ago i for one do notice the diffrence in 60fps and 120fps the 120 is for 3d permalink parent report reply

coolman 2 points 10 months ago I didn't know that, thanks for the reply, +1 for you. :-) permalink parent report reply

mhoward48 2 points 10 months ago Very nice to build your own. I like it you did it for your dad.Nice memory you have of building one together. I worked for a large Semi-conductor company when my children were young. When my daughter was a teen, I tried to get her, to let me show her how to build her own computer, she would not comply, just not interested. I love my girl, but good thing she married a engineer from Microsoft, or she would be lost troubleshooting, and maintaining her rigs. permalink parent report reply

logan0 2 points 9 months ago Haha, we have the same AC3 background! permalink parent report reply

Newbie1998 [1 Build] 2 points 9 months ago DOing the same thing man! Im 15 now and my dad passed when i was 8. Thanks for sharing permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 2 points 9 months ago well I just turned 16 this past June, but I guess you most likely know how I feel permalink parent report reply

Newbie1998 [1 Build] 1 point 9 months ago ya I turned 15 this june! Im going on my first build in the next month so hopefully I can overcome this build! permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 2 points 9 months ago dont fret to much about it, its really easy permalink parent report reply

ColdELITE [1 Build] 2 points 9 months ago Damn, nice build dude. permalink parent report reply

RamonWilliams84 2 points 9 months ago You are awesome kid! Excuse me, young man... I lost my father 17 years ago the day after tomorrow so take it from me man, just continue to keep his tutelage with you always and strive to be the man he had hoped... Awesome build man, I'm impressed dude. Stay up permalink parent report reply

bennyboy968 2 points 8 months ago It's a little pricey, this is for people with money to spend. permalink parent report reply

Hakumisoso [2 Builds] 2 points 8 months ago Wait wait wait, i am skeptical, in another build, you said you built your computer with your dad at the age 11. but in this build, you say 13. permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago what are you talking about it says 11 permalink parent report reply

Hakumisoso [2 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago Nice, you changed it. Or my eyes have gotten worse. permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 1 point 8 months ago well i didnt change it, maybe you just read it wrong idk permalink parent report reply

Rayyo 2 points 8 months ago how did you decide to get liquid cooler versus noctua? permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 2 points 8 months ago i liked the idea of having a water cooling system, and it run pretty cool permalink parent report reply

DontJudgeMeBro 2 points 8 months ago This is really great! permalink parent report reply

TristynCraig 2 points 7 months ago Simply beautiful. Hopefully I can get mine in and show off my prize :) permalink parent report reply

SgtTherin [1 Build] 2 points 7 months ago I've seen so many times and now I'm saying screw it and writing a comment! This is beautiful m8! This is art man. Righteous work! permalink parent report reply

Piixlates 2 points 7 months ago Nice build :D permalink parent report reply

SeanM [1 Build] 2 points 7 months ago It's not bad. Fix it up when you can/want. permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 2 points 7 months ago i just re-did all my cables a few weeks ago and dusted it out and thanks for the comment permalink parent report reply

chowsownsomepizza 2 points 7 months ago Y U NO BUY AMD 8 CORE CPU? permalink parent report reply

darshhmxd 2 points 6 months ago **** http://pcpartpicker.com/user/darshhmxd/saved/2BWd permalink parent report reply

DDawg426 2 points 6 months ago This is a very nice build, and I know your father would be very proud. On a side note, what is that thing with the speakers under the monitor? A boombox? permalink parent report reply

ixRAZORxi [1 Build] 2 points 6 months ago Why is this so high ranked??? permalink parent report reply

mateuszr [1 Build] 3 points 6 months ago Oh I don't know.... maybe because his father died and he dedicated his computer to him? But probably because of his cable management... that's fantastic permalink parent report reply

devo456 2 points 6 months ago I'm pretty new to creating a pc and i really don't know much about this kind of stuff. Does this build have wireless or wired internet connection? I'm thinking about buying this and i dont see anything on the list that connects it to the internet. Do I have to add something to it? Anyone who can answer this please respond. permalink parent report reply

mateuszr [1 Build] 2 points 6 months ago I would assume wired because I don't see a Wi-Fi adapter in his pictures nor in his parts list. permalink parent report reply

devo456 2 points 6 months ago So you're saying i don't need to buy anything extra to this build? Do i need to buy Storage? permalink parent report reply

mateuszr [1 Build] 2 points 6 months ago I would say you want to ideally have a 1+ TB hard drive and some kind of SSD for Windows and some games. permalink parent report reply

devo456 2 points 6 months ago So I'm going to have to add that to my cart to add to this build? permalink parent report reply

mateuszr [1 Build] 2 points 6 months ago You don't have to (as SSD's can get REALLY expensive), but it's nice to have. As for the Wi-Fi adapter, if you plan on using wireless internet on your computer, then you do need an adapter, however, if you plan on using a wired connection (that is, via an ethernet cable), then you'll find a port for that on every motherboard. permalink parent report reply

devo456 2 points 6 months ago Ok, Thank you so much. This helps me a lot. permalink parent report reply

mateuszr [1 Build] 2 points 6 months ago No problem. Glad to help. :) permalink parent report reply [comment deleted]

Starlana [2 Builds] 2 points 6 months ago I'm sure your dad would be very proud of this; what you have done with those components and a lot of good 'ol fashioned effort. +1 from Starlana <3 permalink parent report reply

CyberNerdNoah 2 points 6 months ago wow you did it for ur dad!! i bet he is really really proud of u permalink parent report reply

sinistersalami 2 points 5 months ago oh no dad is kill permalink parent report reply

Fonnz 2 points 5 months ago LED is a bit to bright but anyways the build is great. Also the cable managing is shabby; try using some cable ties. permalink parent report reply

raf.roland 2 points 5 months ago I absolutely love the corsair cases, they're the best bang for the buck and their tool-less design is so simple... just ordered a Corsair 200R for mself permalink parent report reply

HD7ames [1 Build] 2 points 5 months ago Dude not even going to lie even if this was not a good setup which is totally the opposite I still would of one uped it for the story behind it. But damn this is a nice setup. permalink parent report reply

PCModder 2 points 4 months ago clean those cables! nice build; good hardware; but all I see is messy cables. permalink parent report reply

toro228 2 points 4 months ago Nice build, wished I had money to buy the core parts. permalink parent report reply

Topdogjr 2 points 4 months ago This could possibly run minesweeper on lowest setting at about 23-17 fps, very well indeed. lol Amazing build though, some of the best parts packed in one beast machine! permalink parent report reply

srahulbose 2 points 3 months ago Thank you for sharing :-) permalink parent report reply

Soarin 2 points 3 months ago Very noice c::DAMNRIGHTISCNECSORJFTG:AERNFAGBvdf v permalink parent report reply

cecost 2 points 3 months ago Looks great ... it'll be nice to have something both a) useful and b) commemorative for years. BTW, cable management is good enough ... there are diminishing returns to time spent on cable routing. You're there, plenty of airflow .. especially in light of the H100i cooling the CPU. permalink parent report reply

Zylos 2 points 3 months ago Amazing build, highest amount of up votes on here. Have another one. +1 ; ) permalink parent report reply

Stephni 2 points 3 months ago D'aww.. permalink parent report reply

orangyvv 2 points 1 month ago Wow, a salute to you sir. I'm 15 as well, and I'm trying to round up ~$400 to build a PC. The fact that you got $1500 at your age amazes me. And to dedicate it to your father, that's amazing. Great build, keep it up permalink parent report reply

Dukex1011 [Submitter] [3 Builds] 2 points 1 month ago I have a nice Uncle that is in IT Tech and my grandparents helped a little permalink parent report reply

otisriedel 2 points 1 month ago lol I was wondering what would get a guy to the top of the list, and I have a feeling that the story behind this build made the difference. on a side note, really nice build there! I just made my first build, I'm still working out the kinks but I think I've got it down: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/otisriedel/saved/4hFd permalink parent report reply

CAK3_1S_A_LI3 1 point 4 months ago You only went to 4.4 ghz with that cooler? you can go up to 4.8+ with that... permalink parent report reply [comment deleted] [comment deleted]

Evshrug 1 point 13 months ago Ok I'll bite: why do pre-filled water coolers suck (besides the leaky future, and, you know, the fact that a water pump is supposed to suck too...)? NVidia didn't "lose" the desktop this gen, mostly they haven't cut prices as much as AMD since release. There is also the matter of compute performance... But I don't run scientific programs or bitcoin mining personally, just games, graphic design, & typing for me. I agree about the RAM and Razer Headphone; Razer headphones are kinda like the Beats by Dr Dre of computer audio, and only in rare graphic design scenarios am I hitting against the 8 Gb of RAM I have in my build. HOWEVER, I don't want to sound like Bill Gates saying "We'll never possibly need more than 256k RAM!" or whatever the exact quote was. I wouldn't want LESS than 8 GB right now, and perhaps this was built when the ram cost less. I got 2x4Gb Kingston HyperBlu @$34 when J&R had a sale last year, harder to find 1600mHz RAM for that price today. permalink parent report reply

Evshrug 3 points 13 months ago Also, doesn't SLI scale better than Crossfire, with less micro-stuttering framerate problems? The GTX 670 was lauded for it's value upon release, AMD basically HAD to lower their prices. permalink parent report reply [comment deleted]

Evshrug 3 points 13 months ago Lol it's not my GTX 670, but for reference (and according to PCPartsPicker prices), you can get a GTX 670 starting at (http://pcpartpicker.com/part/pny-video-card-vcggtx670xpb) $319.99, while the first 7970 I saw on the list was (http://pcpartpicker.com/part/powercolor-video-card-ax79703gbd52dhv3) $377.99. Not sure how that's quite a bit cheaper. Also, the GTX Titan is easily the fastest single consumer graphics card right now, tho it rarely proves it's value @$1k. I'm not 100% sure, but I am pretty sure Tom's Hardware reports SLI scaling to work better than Crossfire, although AMD is making firmware strides that reduce Crossfire microstuttering and bring the scaling closer to the consistency of SLI. Mostly, I look to Tom's for benchmarking. For myself, I'll probably pick the best Core i5 I can afford. On an earlier budget I bought an i3 last year, and it has served surprisingly well - my super old/cheap (hopefully replaced soon) GPU is the bottleneck. I don't think you bashed RAM here (I'm replying from my inbox), but I saw before you expounding the virtues of not overpaying for more ram than the system can use, and mostly I agree with you. Just saying, we'll probably figure out how to use more RAM in the future (though said RAM will be cheaper then). From my inbox, I forget what I said about headphones, but yeah, generally there are some really overpriced brands of headphones that perform like $35 or $50 headphones, but there are some lesser known makers who make stuff actually worthy of their price (subject to laws of diminishing return and supply/demand, of course). Makes a difference if you actively enjoy music as a hobby. Good to know about CPU cooling, I'll have to look into phantects products. permalink parent report reply [comment deleted]

Evshrug 2 points 13 months ago It's fine, I contradict myself all the time as I learn more :) Thanks for the reply, fun to read, useful in parts as well. EG: I don't have $1k to spend on a video card, so that comparison is kinda moot in my life right now, however I was considering upgrading from my Core i3 2105 to an i5 (I'm not really interested in overclocking... Tho do you think the P engineering models without an iGPU are a good deal?). Thanks for the benchmarks offer, but I think I have a good general feel of benchmarks from anandtech and toms hardware. That new GTX 650 Ti Boost seems interesting, about the same price and performance as a 1 gb Radeon HD7850, though with an extra GB of video RAM. I'm actually looking to pick up a new GPU in the $150-$170 range, trying to decide between a GTX 570 @ $150 after rebates, one of the GTX 650 Ti Boost @ $170 (lower W and TDI), or an HD 7850 with the game bundle. I agree about the headphones, Beats are fashion clothing as much as headphones, and enjoy an inflated price. Sennheiser is consistently good, I've tried a few other brands as well, right now I love my AKG Q701 (in storm trooper white, tho the black ones look more conservative I guess, I don't get in a twist over that ;). Aaaaaaanyway, good chatting and thanks again for the reply, happy Easter :) permalink parent report reply [comment deleted] [comment deleted by staff] [comment deleted] [comment deleted] [comment deleted]

That is ART, and it just adds a WHOLE NEW LEVEL to building pc's and this website. You are true to this hobbie and I respect you to the highest level. May your father rest in piece.
