Description

This rig is mostly used for music production and media consumption but, I also like to game as much as I can. I wanted a clean minimal look so purchased parts that balanced sleek aesthetics with adequate performance, although I made a few subtle modifications to get the look I was after, which is summed up by the following words. Server | Modern | Minimal | Industrial

Whether or not I was able to achieve any hints of this, I'm happy with the end result.

Part Reviews

CPU

Upgraded from the 2500k. Highly recommended to me so hey, if your going to upgrade then upgrade, It was not that much of a huge difference in price from the 6600k IMO. So far so good, not yet overclocked.

CPU Cooler

Wanted a change from AIO. The best looking air cooler IMO and performs just as well as an AIO for less. I didn't really like the logo popping so much so, decided to mute it a bit to add to its industrial look. Super quiet too.

EDIT: I decided I don't not really like the look of the brushed metal so I sprayed it Matt Metallic to match the rest of the build. I also decided to make the logo look like it was stamped into the plate, than just a badge.

Thermal Compound

Does what it says on the tin.

Motherboard

Got a great deal on this. So far so good. Had a few problems installing windows though.

Memory

Got these purely for aesthetic purposes. Does the job.

Storage

OS install for now. Will upgrade to M.2

Storage

Game installs. Does what it says on the tin.

Video Card

At the time I got tired of waiting for the 1080 to be available so went with the 1070 FTW. Happy with it but will be upgrading to the 1080 as I'm going to get a 4K monitor in preparation for Mass Effect: Andromeda and Tekken 7. I'm a graphics junky sue me.

Case

What can I say this is beautiful. Was 100% going to get the Enthoo Evolv until I found out about the Elite S340. It looks so clean, it reminds me of a server room while the matt black reminds me of a matt black Aventador.

Power Supply

Brought over from my previous build. Does the job.

Operating System

So far so good. Only upgraded for DX12. Also thought it was about time, and why not if you can buy a legitimate key for less than £10 A bit intrusive though but I sorted that out.

Wireless Network Adapter

No problems here.

Case Fan

Supa dupa quiet and at a supa dupa price.

Monitor

Was working as a graphic designer and doing game textures for fun so purchased this monitor a while ago. Will be upgrading to a 4k monitor for gaming and media purposes. Only thing I don't like is its not wall mountable.

Keyboard

Does what it says on the tin and looks good doing it.

Headphones

Absolutely great sounding cans.

Nice pictures :P

But my comment is about your chair.... I guess you dont play well!! Your next investment should be Arozzi Verona or DXracer :)

Good job!

theandroids submitter 1 Build 3 points 29 months ago

Thanks :) Its purposely done so I don't get too comfy sitting for long periods. It forces me to get up and take a break.

I use a folding chair and it doesn't force me to go anywhere after long periods. willpower lol

They are perfectly good chairs.

I point at down arrow and click now

Huehuehuehuehue ( ͡◉ ͜ʖ ͡◉)

MarshmellowMan2 1 Build -2 points 29 months ago

they're overpriced and provide almost no tangible benefit over your run of the mill office chair, while also looking gaudy and obnoxious to everyone who isn't a SEERIOUS GAEMURR

Evil_Paroxysm 5 Builds 3 points 29 months ago

They serve their purpose as a chair with good full back support. They are expensive but most good office chairs are.

You're bashing something on looks alone when that comes down to personal preference. A chair is a chair, people can choose to spend the extra money on one that looks like that if they would like.

Yahtadi 1 point 29 months ago

Oh yeah, almost forgot.. Great macros yeah sure but i cant see ****

Trotterz 1 point 29 months ago

Damn! Those pictures are awesome man.

But, for something that beautiful.....why not grab some sleeved cables?

theandroids submitter 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

Thanks! I thought about that but, like the way the ones I have make it look more "industrial" if I do Ill probably just get the 8 pin connectors for the GPU and leave the MB power cable as is :)

Melch_Man 1 point 29 months ago

Why not use the first pci-e slot doesn't it boost your gpu's performance?

theandroids submitter 1 Build 2 points 29 months ago

With this motherboard its fine. I'm not in the last slot.

Lyrix 1 point 29 months ago

Damn its nice! 1 +! but doesnt the gpu run slower in the last slot?

theandroids submitter 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

Thanks! Have not notice any difference while gaming. Its in a x16 Slot not x8. Besides I don't think there would be a huge performance decrease even if ran in x8 but you would have to run tests to be sure with your own GPU. But probably minute at best and hardly noticeable using 8 lanes.

Lyrix 1 point 29 months ago

okay

montiago 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

Great build! Couple of questions:

  1. You used an alan wrench to take off the heatspreader to spray paint, right?

  2. How's the GPU? I wanted to get it, but I saw many reviews regarding coil whine and overheating, and to be honest, they're a bit discouraging.

  3. Are the front storage compartments big enough for an HDD, or does the HDD go in the back of the case?

theandroids submitter 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

Thanks!

  1. Yes an Alan key I believe it was 1.5mm.

  2. Haven't a bad thing to say about it, not everyone is having the heat issue. I also have no coil whine.

  3. The basement can hold 3 HDD, 2 HDD if you are going to put a SSD in the front window because of the cable that takes up the first HDD slot.

montiago 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

Thank you!

montiago 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

Just a thought. Where did you buy your FTW? I feel like if I purchase it straight from EVGA, I'll have a higher chance of receiving a good unit, than if I buy it from a retailer.

theandroids submitter 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

www.scan.co.uk Always purchased from them only because each time I wanted to purchase from EVGA, they never had the stock. Never had a problem with anything I've purchased from this site. Since the GTX 570 I've purchase all my GPU's from them.

Only thing is I find them sometimes to be a bit expensive compared to other retailers. Especially delivery.

notchocheese123 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

How long did it take for your case to arrive?

theandroids submitter 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

Next day on ebay.co.uk

TheillEagle 1 point 29 months ago

Please move then 1070 to the top slot you are gfetting less preformance

theandroids submitter 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

No I'm not. Please read all comments.

Formullla 1 point 29 months ago

First off awesome build, secondly you think there's enough clearance for a dark rock pro 3? It's 3mm larger than the dark rock 3.

theandroids submitter 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

Thanks. Yes, but depends in which orientation you put it, but in general I think its not a good look stuffing it into a small case like this. You're better off with an AIO if you want better cooling.

NitroOG 1 point 23 months ago

How is the temperatures? Is the Cpu cooler quiet?

theandroids submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

Sorry for the late reply. Everything is normal and yes its quiet.

twf46 1 point 16 months ago

Could you provide the clearance of your CPU cooler? And did you have to raise it at all to fit the RAM?

theandroids submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

I didn't have to raise anything,

morestyles2000 1 point 15 months ago

Just saw this ... super sexy rig bro. Love it. :)

theandroids submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

Yomatius 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

Nice build! I have the same case and also added two silentwings fan. I am wondering... what did you do with that Noctua fan?

theandroids submitter 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

Never used it.

I asked be quiet about this and they said it was fine in this orientation. I also have been watching temps and they are perfectly fine. Also the temps are fine with the GPU in this slot. If I had a 3 way sli set up, the GPU would have to be that slot regardless.

My step-up is running out so have to upgrade to the 1080 now. But will sell when the ti comes out ;)
