Description

Put together a new system over the holidays. Will be replacing my laptop (Lenovo T540) for general everyday/school use, and allow me to finally venture into gaming beyond low settings!

The parts were all purchased between Black Friday and Boxing Day here in Canada. Managed to pick up all the components on decent sales besides the processor (Seems none of the retailers have any stock for Skylake "K" series processors anymore).

Build went together smoothly, tried to pick out quality/reliable components in hopes of avoiding hardware issues in the future.

Used the Asus AI Suite 3 software to overclock the processor. Found that when I left the software to overclock on its own without tweaking the settings, it would supply more voltage than I was comfortable with (up to 1.4 v). After adjusting the voltage slider to its lowest setting I was able to reach a stable overclock at 4.5 Ghz with the adaptive voltage reaching a maximum at 1.3 v.

MSI Afterburner was used to overclock the GPU. managed to reach a stable clock speed of 1500 Mhz on the core and 8000 Mhz on the memory.

Nice build!

Impressive overclock on ur 970. I haven't pushed mine yet. I'm curious what I could get though just for benchmarks.

Thanks! The overclock managed to push an extra 10 fps in valley/heaven benchmark over stock speeds in case you were curious.

Nice!! Did you have have to add any voltage to get that overclock?

I'm almost getting exact the same build. Exept for the 970 (r9 390) and the 500gb ssd (1tb hdd). Nice part choice i have to say :p.

hi there, impressed by ur build. was trying to buy z170-a with u14s, am using corsair lpx ram which i think same as ur build. little worried abt whether u14s will block ram? since from ur pic ,hard to see is there any space between ram and fan. could you advise ? thx a lot : )

Thanks for the compliment! No issues with ram clearance (I'm using corsair lpx) even if you were to use the closest RAM slot to CPU.
