Description

I scrapped the RX-480 because i got a sweet sweet deal on two Fury X's for 500 bucks total. They said it could not be done. It was told that I could not get two Fury X cards inside of the Air 240. Those people who told me i could not are wrong I managed to with a bit of finagling.

In order to fit two Fury X's you need place the bottom Fury X's radiator in the front of the case. For the second you'll need to mount it in the top. There is a catch however. IT WILL NOT FIT. You will have to essentially force the radiator into place and make sure your ram is only in Dimm slot 1 and 3. 4 is going to be totally blocked by the radiator. Keep the top of the radiator where the hoses come from pointed towards your ram. Screw in the top two screws closest to the hoses. The back two will not be able to be screwed in. The radiator will slightly obstruct some of the holes the case uses to snap the sides on but don't worry it'll still fit. Cut a piece of the foam that you get in the Fury X case to size and place it on top of the bottom radiator so it pushes up against the top radiator relieving stress from the screws placing the top radiator in.

Update removed the rear fan next to the power supply and added a ax1500I. it fits well but has no space for extra fan.

this is a nice build

the only thing i may change with the build will be the PSU

Prob the EVGA G2 or Seasonic or the CoolerMaster V series PSU

yeah. i couldn't afford to spend anymore than i already had so i bought a 850 for super cheap. I'll be fine as long as i don't overclock.

2 Fury'X for $500, nice man. +1

Awesome cards. How are the pumps however? Any odd noises by any chance

nope. Not bad noises at all. i was truly afraid of that.

Great concept, love the execution too! The idea of squeezing that much performance out of an Air 240 is seriously awesome, +1 from me!

How are the temps on the CPU?

i don't know really. i talked about that on the last build same cooler and such. it gets up tot 70c under load usually. doesn't seem much different with the fury x's in. I do have one as intake and one as exhaust.

I was thinking of getting one myself (C7). I looked at a couple reviews and went with an AIO as the allure of overclocking got the better of my budget lol. But 70 C is really good!

Without reading the description , I thought the second rad is the optical drive ...

How do you like the Furys? I'm thinking about getting a AMD card but I can't decide which one to go with Fury or RX 480

hmm. Well usually u cant get a Fury X for god money. I got mine off of Craigslist. and i had to talk my seller down to 500 from 580. I also had the 480. It performs quite a bit better than the 480 but unless you get a great deal i would probably just wait for the end of the year. AMD is releasing a 490 which is possibly vega or a dual polaris. and Wait for that before making a decision. If i had to choose now i'd say 480 unless you can get a fury for 300 or less.

The RX490 will prob be the Fury X replacement

Dual Polaris will come later, the reason being the Radeon Pro Duo is still in stocks and not many are buying that GPU because of the stupid price of 1400 dollars which is enough to pay for a single Titan XP GPU with some spare change.

Oh you read my mind haha. There a guy selling his Fury X for $300 on Craigslist, at the same time Newegg has a XFX Fury X for $380 as well. But I want Vega to get here soon, since I'm reusing half of my components into another build I need another GPU for my main build.

I'd get just the CL one. No need to crossfire if you're waiting for vega. I'll be putting up my xfx rx 480 black edition soon.

I decided i am going with two fury X's because they are going for so low. Do they scale pretty well? Also is it hard to work in a case that small?

  • 1 point

the scaling depends on the game but they don't scale any worse than any other radeon brand card. its going to depend on the game not so much the card. but at 1440p i can keep fallout 4 over 90fps maxed settings.

How do you like your Sennheiser headset? I'm thinking of getting one for my upcoming build. Sorry for a comment out of the blue 25 months later.

absolutely no problem i wish i had paid attention to my comments earlier. Personally i love them. Over a few years the ear pads did break but i was able to purchase replacements. If i were you i would buy a spare set of pads or the set and the replacement ear pieces. The ear pads slot in and off so u can place in the batteries behind the padding. Be careful not to break that plastic pieces. But this took 2 years of daily use for me to have these issues. I wear them all day for music, movies, anime and etc.

Otherwise they're really great. I use them to play shooters. The surround really helps.

I'm good if i don't overclock. I don't plan on keeping this build for more than 6 months honestly. By december i'll have the corsair ax1500i.

Whoa. Too bad you didn't get a FD Node 804. You could have put the other radiator on the other side. That way you could have a fan in front of your CPU giving it some cool air.
