THE BUILD

I have wanted to build a computer for a long time and with old savings bonds i found I finally had the capital to do so. I had a budget of $850 for the entire build. I picked up a 25" refurbished hp monitor on Ebay for 100 dollars. For those pf you on a budget highly recommend looking on Ebay for a monitor, keyboard and mouse. My mouse was $4 and my keyboard was $12. These are not very good quality but they get the job done for the time being and i can upgrade so easily later on. I new that I was wanted an Intel i5 so that was going to eat up a lot of my budget. This processor is amazing. It is so worth the extra money and is going to hold up if I upgrade later on. I went with 8gb of ram because ddr4 is expensive and will be easy to snap in 2 more sticks of it if I want 16gb when I have the funds. The graphics card is the best budget card on the market in my opinion. I have tried overclocking it even and it works like a champ and stays cool. The rest of the parts were just easy to pick because they are rated well, cheap, and fit with my build. The only other thing I debated was my case. I wanted to go with a corsair SPEC ALPHA mid tower but after further research I found the NZXT S340... Guys this case is awesome. It is very spacious, the minimalist look is sleek, and it comes with 2 fans that work perfectly. Lastly, I got a windows 10 64 bit product key on Ebay for cheap.

GAMING BENCHMARKS

I only have Battlefield One and Rocket league at the moment.

-Rocket league on ultra everything runs at 140 FPS

-BF1 on Ultra settings with resolution scale to 100% runs at 60 FPS flawlessly.

(I also tested my rig on Valley benchmark on ultra and got 60 FPS all day.)

FINISHING TOUCHES

I do plan on adding an led strip in my rig as well as putting a walking dead character figure in the case (Negan or Daryl can't decide yet). Also I am going to clean up the inside tonight by using the cable management a little better.

CONCLUSION

For the entire build I spent just under $850 (for monitor, keyboard, mouse, windows 10, and all the parts for the PC) for a rig that I think is awesome.

Comment and let me know what you think and also vote Negan or Daryl for a theme! Thanks for checking out my build

UPDATE: I did my best on cable management. The 2 you still see in the middle are not long enough to go around the back of the case. Hope this is satisfying enough for you guys.

UPDATE 2: I returned my Thermaltake power supply and put in a EVGA 500 80+ Bronze. The cords are now long enough for me to use the cable management system. For all you damn OCD filled haters I will post pics of the cables.

Congrats on your first build. But get those cables under control! Or use them to tangle up an action figure...

Congrats on your first build, but man use the cable management features that come with the case for free! get all those cables behind the wall!

The S340 is built to have really good cable management, at a later time go back and redo it for sure.

I just can't get behind that -- You'd be the only person in existence saying you dont have enough room to run the CPU cable behind the mobo -- Something isn't right here if this is the best cable management option available....

Why did you get a PSU with a low wattage?

  • 1 point

It runs at like 240 watts tops so anything more is just overkill.

  • 1 point

Yeah I had a feeling it would be low but what about having an upgrade path?

  • 1 point

The only upgrade i plan on making in the near future it 8 more gb of ram other than that i dont see myself upgrading until the 2000 series of gpu comes out and the 1070 drops in price.

Please, I ask you fix your cable management. That is a reason for going for a window panel so you can see the cleanliness of your PC. Good build but just fix the cables, I almost die on it.

Are you using your build for gaming?

yes and recording/editing just recieved the case you got skype???

I don't have Skype and you have to have the GPU to do those things

You do know there is a hole to route your cpu power cable right ?

I promise thats the only way i can plug it in.

what htz monitor do you recommend?

  • 1 point

I have a 60 but I would go with 144 if you can afford it.

  • 1 point

Okay, I will look into it. Also, (first time building a pc), putting in a gtx 1070 instead of the gtx 1050 Ti shouldn't change much correct?(basically, will I need to replace other parts if I do that)

  • 1 point

If you have an i5 or better it will make a big difference the only think you would want extra is 16 gb ram instead of 8gb.

Alright, thanks for responding.

Hey nice work dude! I plan on doing your build after my semester ends!

I'm new to builds and was wondering if you have to update the mobo BIOS for the i5? Also do you bootup off your SSD? + does this support DVI monitor connection? Thanks!! Great build.

  • 2 points

I didnt have to update my mobo i did however have to update the driver on my gpu driver but it was a breeze with geforce experience. I do boot off of my ssd and its awesome power off to on chrome in just under 20 seconds. And yes my graphics card and mobo ports have dvi connection. Thanks, and good luck on your build!

What a coincidence. I was picking part for my pc and when i saw the completed builds with the same core i5 i saw you with almost everything the same in my list of parts

As someone who has the same case, please, for the love of God, fix your cable managing. It's a disservice to the case to just have those all strung out like that.

I said i was fixing them tonight but thanks for echoing the other 5 people in the comments.

430 its plenty for my build it uses like 240w.

  • 1 point

Gotcha I would do the same if my ordered psu came in ruined. Is rin to BestBuy and het what would work. "No no I mean the quality of that product. Was it super cheap? You just don't like the EVGA models that are 80+ or better?"

  • 1 point

I ordered a corsair 430w 80+ bronze. It arrived late and when i got it the box was soaked from poor packaging. I went to best buy and got the only 430 watt they had left.

  • 1 point

Now that made my mouth drop. That sucked. I completely understand. I'll delete my comments about the psu. Holy crap, man. Add that to your build story. Dammit they owe you a psu.

  • 1 point

Im sure it is wrapped in plastic inside but i dont want to open it and risk my build using it.
