Description

Finally gave in to the long-time urge to build a PC. Took my time to do the necessary research and was able to get the parts I wanted for a pretty reasonable price. I'm very happy with the looks and performance of the machine, now I just need a bigger desk.

Part Reviews

CPU

Awesome processor for the price. The stock cooler is great and works effectively even when moderately overclocked. I'd absolutely recommend it for a mid-to-higher tier build!

Motherboard

This mobo does everything I need it to do, and looks great with the build. Runs my Corsair RAM at 3200 after updating bios, which was quick and painless to flash. The only negative thing I could say is that I probably could have got it for a little cheaper if I'd waited for a sale, but at the price I paid it's still worth it.

Memory

Was lucky enough to grab these with an Amazon discount code. The non-LED model was only three bucks less, so figured I'd splurge a little for the A E S T H E T I C. They run at 3200mhz on the Mortar and pair great with the 1600.

Storage

Pretty sweet SSD for the money. Super quick load times, and the build feels solid.

Video Card

Probably overkill since I game on a 1080p monitor, but I wanted something that would last me a while. I was able to combine some discounts to bring the price down closer to an (overpriced) RX 580. I've heard people don't care for the blower-type fans, but I find it to be very quiet, and the card kicks some serious butt, so I'm happy.

Case

This case made cable management sooo simple, especially for a first-time build. I love the clean lines and the matte finish, and the purple accents add some great subtle color to the otherwise monochromatic build.

Power Supply

Ample power for my build, feels solid, and is incredibly quiet. It isn't modular, but to be honest that didn't really matter with the S340's HDD/PSU bay. Everything is tucked away nice and neat. At the price paid it was a no-brainer.

Really cool first build :D. Good job, good luck, and happy gaming :)

Is the "upcoming game" Destiny 2 by chance?

  • 2 points

Hey thanks! The game is indeed Destiny 2, did the pins give it away? :D

Yep, I was about to ask the same question. I'm currently planning a build for the same reason. That October release date is gonna be tough though.

Tell me about it, but it should be worth the wait.

Great looking first build!(+1 for not using red/black!!!) looking to do a cube build with this mobo my self how did you find placement of things like fan headers/usb headers? Also would you suggest looking out for anything while building with it?

  • 1 point

Thanks, glad you like it! I dig the clean white look myself. Can't say I ran in to any problems with header placements, so I feel like you'd be fine. It is hard to say for certain, though, considering you'll be using a different case.

Get a little side table / TV stand for the tower (that's what I did). Nice build with great cable management. Would love to hear more about the build process (e.g. what you liked and didn't like, what was difficult, etc...) Enjoy your build and welcome to PCMR.

That's a great idea, and thanks! I'm planning on updating the description with a little more detail on the build when I have some time.

It's awesome how you've managed to cut prices :o How did you get a Corsair CX550 for less than 30 bucks? :o And I thought that case was more expensive... GG!

The PSU was $20 off with a rebate, the case had a rebate as well. I used the buildapcsales sub-reddit for a lot of the components. It was a really great way to find sweet deals!

+1 for a few reasons:

  • This build is clean and dope, great job!
  • DrLupo ; )
  • Aside from the lucky steal on that PSU (Good job on that!), everything is very well-priced (Especially for the performance you'll get from it, a 1070 will destroy D2 at 1080p)
  • 1 point

Hey thanks! Lupo is the man, haha. I appreciate the kind words. Your build looks awesome too! Love that keyboard, and gotta love the S340s.

Love the build, mine uses a few familiar parts. Just curious what are you running your memory at and what voltage on the CPU?

  • 2 points

Thank you! I have the memory running at 3200mhz after updating bios, and the CPU holding steady at 3.8mhz.

  • 2 points

I cannot get my memory above 2933 :( I updated my bios as well.

Hmm, the option should be there

Its not that the option isn't there, it wont successfully boot on that speed.

Great looking, simple, clean build. Congrats! What temps are you getting at 3.8 using the stock cooler? I was 75-85 normal use, 85-95 stress testing. I needed to pull back to stock clocks until my AM4 bracket arrived for my trusty Noctua. Probably the fault of my case, mostly. Temps drop 10C if I open the sound dampening front door.

  • 2 points

Thanks, I appreciate it! Normal use temps hang around 34C, when gaming it goes up to ~45C. I don't think I've really pushed it particularly hard yet, but so far the cooler has worked well and no issues have come up. It may be an airflow thing, as you said.

So what has your gaming experience been like so far?

The only game I've gotten in to with it yet has been DOOM (2016), but it runs on ultra with max settings buttery smooth.

How long are the wires that come out of the PSU? Did you have to use any kind of extensions?

No extensions were necessary, the stock cables worked fine.

Thank you! Very kind of you to say. I really hope GPU prices start to drop so people can build what they want for a reasonable price again.

Hi , have u encounter any problem when booting up the system using that mobo and RAM ? or working nicely without a problem ? I'm planning to copy this guide but I read that some of Ryzen users having a problem with their mobo.

I've never had problems booting, however I was getting lower FPS than I should have been for a while. I just updated the BIOS and now it runs everything at the proper frame rates.

I stopped playing D2 for a while but have recently got back in to it with announcement of upcoming changes. I've been playing a lot more Fortnite, though, if I'm being honest :)

Hi does the LED on the AMD Wraith-Spire-LED Cooler work on this motherboard?

Quick answer would be much appreciated because I want to order today :) - soon.

Thanks!

I have the stock wraith that came with the CPU, so I can't say for certain, but I would say that it most likely will. Everything has been functioning perfect with the mobo after updating bios.
