Our story starts with a friend whose father decided to gift him the money for a new PC. This friend is know as Tavish and began searching hi and low for the perfect pre-built PC with no idea that he was about to be ripped off. Tavish contacted our hero to check to see if a pre-built PC was worth its weight. It was not. Tavish then posted a quest for our hero to create a PC that would blow everyone out of the water and be worth every penny put into it. Our hero then proceeded to troll through build after build after build until he had done enough research to create something worthy for his friend to call his PC.
I picked a water cooled 6700k for the reliability and ease of overclocking without to much trouble. The ASRock Z170 Extreme6+ just seemed like a beautiful choice to fit the colors and requirements for the system I wanted to build. Tavish runs alot of VMs for his work so going a little overboard on the memory was worth the few extra dollars. M.2 drive for the OS and SSD for the VMs and apps. Standard HDDs set in a raid for files and archiving data. The EVGA 1080 FTW ACX3.0 was a no brainer. It's so powerful and beautiful that you can't not want it inside your case. A EVGA SuperNOVA P2 750W is the power-plant that keeps everything juiced with room to spare. Of course a PC with all of these components has to be beautiful so she got the works with lights and sleeved cables. Stuff all of that into the beautiful NZXT S340 and the end result is a work of art.
This was by far the part that scared me the most. Not because of the building aspect but hoping everything worked out of the box with nothing DOA because Tavish had to travel after he received all the components so I could teach him the art of building, tuning and maintaining his newly created beauty. The build when smoother than any other build I have done. Everything fit together and matched perfectly. Everything posted and booted first try. Which was a relief since we had already started drink and had gone through a case of beer between the both of us. After the long process of installing Windows and Installing drivers the tuning began. I wanted to keep the overclocking very light since Tavish lives in a warm climate with no AC in his home. So a very light 4.6Ghz for the CPU and set the 1080 to 1974Mhz should keep it rolling beautifully. Now the real test FIRE STRIKE! After the test was all done the system posted a solid 18594 putting it in the top 3% which when all is said and done above and beyond what the pre-built PC Tavish originally was about to buy for the same price. Tavish is happy with his new lady and they will live happily ever after or until she needs a second 1080!
