Description

First time builder. Gaming and productivity build.

After wanting to join the PCmr for a while, My WHOLE family (Like uncles and aunts, grandmothers and grandfathers, parents and everyone) Pitched in for this perfect rig for me. I had been choosing parts far prior to me actually ordering it so I had researched quite a bit.

Since I am a first time builder it took me a bit longer to assemble my PC than I had anticipated. Around 5 hours (It took me an hour just getting the front fans in! due to me misunderstanding the mounting system). But all in all it went weary well. The Define R5 is super easy to build in and is over all just an amazing case!

Since I do not live in the U.S. I am not buying this trough amazon or something like that. I bought everything through a Norwegian retailer to witch I have some connections so i got a 20% off everything. I ended up paying 1300$ for everything.

In conclusion I am very happy with my build and how it ended up. The build process was fun and I learned so much in my research prior to building my PC. Most of the parts that I bought hold their own very nicely and I would recommend almost every part in my PC.

If you want to see more pictures of it here is a build log I made: http://imgur.com/gallery/7fMHR

Rant alert! My psu is either faulty or this model just sucks monkey balls! There is a strange rattling in the fan witch is annoyingly laud! My build would be complacently silent if not for that rattling.

Part Reviews

CPU

Overclocks great. A good midle ground for gamers.

CPU Cooler

Silent and cool enough for an air cooler.

Motherboard

Best motherboard at its price range. Wish however the build quality and robustness was better.

Storage

Bit slow but good for the price.

Video Card

Great card good performance for the price.

Case

AWESOME CASE! hdd led is annoying though

Power Supply

It works but there is a rattling noise that comes from the fan that is the loudest thing in my system. If not for this power supply my system would be completely silent!

Operating System

same old same old

Monitor

Good monitor. Bit slow. Managed to overclock it to 75hz ...whitch is good (:

Thank you (: it did not look like this in the start but I got so ashamed so I redid it all. Now I am super happy with it.

Nice build i've stumbled across +1. If you don't mind me asking, where do you live?

Andrifann submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

I live in Norway...

The prices are higher here but availability is good.

Cool! I'm in the US :')

Andrifann submitter 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Yea ... I wish I was. Just looked up the prices of a mini ITX build I want to do and its about 50% more expensive here compared to the US.

Here's a quote I found on Newegg about the power supply rattle:

"After a few days the fan started to make a noise. Looking around on the internet I found this to be a common problem with a variety of solutions. Turning off all the power saving features in the BIOS worked for me, not a big deal since I overclock and have these options off most of the time anyway, but it'd be nice to have the option to turn them on and not have the noise."

Hope this helps. =)

Nah I wont really go into that much trouble. It s barely noticeable with the case. Also I found out that part of the rattle came from a loose HDD cage. So I just removed it and the noise level went down significantly.

How is the psu doing?

Andrifann submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

It's pretty loud sadly. loudest part in my system. I will probably sell it and get a 750w EVGA psu with the zero rpm fan mode when the usage is low. It is pretty expensive but worth it in the long run.

That's strange, I have the same one and it runs fine, I can't even hear the fans :/

Yea. every one is different though. I just got unlucky.
