Description
So like many other builds here, that was my first build ever. As a student (16 yo) money is kind of a contraint. However I managed to get a decent summer job and alot of hours, enough to put together this wonderful build. I previously gamed on a ROG gaming laptop, which for its time (2014) was a beast, but is not powerful enough for modern AAA titles. I built this pc mainly for gaming, and photo editing. Photography is my passion, which is why my friend came over and took pics of me building this rig. Took a little over 4 months to get all the parts, mainly because I was waiting for sales and for used parts to be put up online. I really don't mind getting used parts, they work the same as brand new and you save alot of money by going that route.
I went with a mix of new and used parts. I bought the cooler, ram and gpu used. They all work 100% fine, and no worries there. I shaved off a good hundred $ off this build just by going this route. Really satisfied that I did that, would not hesitate to do that again. I went with this gpu because I currently only have a 1080p 75hz TN monitor. When the next gen nvidia gpus will come out, I will buy one, and get a brand new 1440p 144hz ips gsync panel. It will be alot prettier and will be super handy when doing photo or video editing. So I will be re-selling the gpu once nvidia RTX becomes available.
As for the build itself, I wanted to go with a classic red and black build, I know it might be a bit old and repetitive, but when done right it can look bad ***. Anyways, here are the pics. Enjoy!
Part Reviews
CPU
Solid cpu, 6c/6t is the best thing for gaming right now, don't need anything higher than that.
CPU Cooler
Beefy cooler. Keeps the cpu really cool. Fan is dead silent, really cool stuff. Bought this cooler used, totally overkill for a i5 8400 but it looks damn sexy in my case.
Motherboard
Great motherboard for the price, has plenty of cool features, I really like the click BIOS. Also fits really good in a red and black build.
Memory
I mean ram is ram. Does what its supposed to do. Got these for a steal. Overclocked to 2400 on 16-16-16-(don't remember that number oops lol). Sleek design, and low profile enough to fit a big-*** cooler.
Storage
Crazy fast ssd, REALLY good price!! Speeds are much more better than a regular ssd, for not alot more. If you can catch this one on sale it is such a steal.
Video Card
Bought this card used. No regrets at all. Fans are extremely loud tho. Other than that runs about every game at high/ultra 1080p with no problem at all.
Case
Dope case, would definetly get this one instead of the s340 elite. It looks much cleaner in my opinion. Building in this case was alot of fun, especially with the cable channels at the back of the case, it is really easy to do some clean cable management back there.
Power Supply
Went way overkill on this psu. Figured it might be useful if gpus in the future use more power which is a really stupid idea but whatever I could afford it so why not. Gorgeous psu and packaging also.
Case Fan
Super silent fans, set these two fans as intake, they do their job while remaining fairly quiet under load.
Custom
Really nice set of cable. Ballin on a budget. You don't need to spend hundreds on full sets when you can have these. Really worth the price, since they add more style especially when you have a windowed case.
