Description

As you read in the title this was my first build and boy was I nervous! I didn't want to mess anything up because 2 months ago I knew nothing about building a computer. After 2 months of picking and swapping parts, watching YouTube videos, and reading forums I decided that I need to make up my mind and finalize the parts.

I went with these parts because it was a major upgrade from my old PC. I wanted to venture off to different games other than CS:GO (only game that I enjoyed that ran at a good frame rate). I wanted to try games that I've played on console before (as in COD, GTA:V, Assassin's Creed) basically games that would just kill my previous PC.

I mainly built this PC for gaming, however I'm also in school. I know the GPU and CPU are overkill for most games but I also would love to start streaming and uploading to YouTube again. My old PC definitely held me back from that.

When I first started building my first issue was installing the Liquid Cooler. I watched videos on how to install them but me being so excited my mind was just blank lol. After about 15 minutes of installing the cooler I moved on to the GPU.. this thing was massive for my case but fit like a glove when I got it installed. Since this was my first build I really didn't know what order to install the parts so I believe that's why I struggled installing some of the parts. Next build I know what needs to go in order.

I don't have really anything else to say, so thanks for looking at the build and thank you PCpartpicker for helping me out.

Part Reviews

CPU

This thing is a BEAST. I LOVE IT. However i'm new to overclocking and have yet to OC this bad boy. But when I do will update.

CPU Cooler

Was a little difficult to install for me (first build) but after about 15-20 minutes of messing with it I figured it out. Keeps my CPU nice and cool!

Motherboard

Got this because it goes great with my MSI Red build. Very easy to install and the BIOS is very simple to operate.

Storage

Store all of my games on here. No problems yet.

Storage

Store videos, pictures, and other miscellaneous stuff on here. No problems yet.

Video Card

THIS THINGS A F***KING BEAST!! Runs any game I play at great FPS on ultra settings. Also, love the red added.

Case

A little smaller that what I imagined but its a case. Not the one I wanted because the other was out of stock. Not much room for cables. However, it comes with an extra fan.

Optical Drive

It's an optical drive. Not really anything to say about it

I picked up a Cloud II and my fiance hates them. I love them because she can watch tv in the same room while I play, without battling to see who can be louder.

I'm building exactly the same build. I didn't want to spend a lot of time on researching, so I trusted you. I need computer for programming and gaming. I think i7 will help me in that.

Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

I'm curious why did you prefer this memory? Why not 32 gb of other company?

How hard was it to build? Any special tutorials to watch?

For me 32GB was just a waste. This was in my color scheme and I knew 16GB was plenty for what I do :)

Building was very easy. Yes, there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube :)

What do you think about GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB XTREME GAMING EDITION? It shows better perfomance results and it is like $20 more expensive.

  • 1 point

Hey dude, sorry I'm getting back to you SOO late. Been pretty busy.

GIGABYTE was actually my first choice. When checking out MSI had a deal on their 980ti that included The Division. So that's main reason I chose this one.

WOAH! It just so appears short and swift opinion reflection on someone's set up is frown upon on this website...

Here! Read my 1k word essay on the reflection of this peculiar set-up!

CPU might be a dead end chipset with no upgrade opportunities, i7 might be overkill for someone just want to play games. But 4790k has been a solid CPU for practically every user on a Z97 board, if the owner can pay the dollars for it, no reason why he wouldn't.

CPU Cooler, AIO liquid cooler with no overclocking? Why not? Maybe the owner just don't want a big bulky heatsink above his motherboard while using a windowed case!

Maybe the owner can re-orientate the fans a little and tidy up the pwm fan cables in that tiny case.

There you go, overall it still looks ok... Bloody lynch mobs...

you have one downvote mate

Everyone is entitled to there own opinion and I value each. I got the i7 for gaming and streaming (also it was recommended by a friend) and my original idea didn't involve a liquid cooler, went with a cheap but reliable heatsink, I just changed my mind last minute and the liquid cooler was only like $20 more. I do plan on overclocking but not anytime soon. I agree with you on the case fans xD when I got done installing everything I noticed the wires hanging infront on the CPU cooler and was like "****, owell, I'll fix another day." At the moment I was just so excited to fire it up. Once I get fans re-orientated will be sure to update the pics! Thanks again for your feedback :)

One more thing I forgot to mention...

H60's stock fan isn't very powerful in terms of airflow, using that mounted on a radiator as the only exhaust in your case could lead to heat build ups. I've experienced this with my H60... But and again looking at your set-up you don't really have a great heat output in your case (I'm assume 980Ti runs a lot cooler than R9 390x). Thought I let you know :3~

  • 1 point

I have 2 in-take and 2 exhaust (1 being the radiator fan) Once I get all the wires situated I'll know wether to install my extra fan I ordered. Thanks for you help :)
