Description

This is my first pc build and overall I am very pleased with it. I wanted something that could play games at 1080p on ultra without spending a unnecessarily large amount of money because I'm poor. Putting it all together was harder then i thought. I was so terrified of static discharge frying my components that I built it in my underpants :) I've overclocked my rx 470 to 1340mhz, for some reason anything above 1340mhz gives a fps decrease in unigine heaven, even with the voltage increased.

CPU:

Best budget cpu you can buy. Under load it barley goes above 50 degrees and plays all games i have tried very well. 10/10 would put in the socket the wrong way again.

Motherboard:

This is one of the cheapest B250M motherboards I could find. It comes with a m.2 drive slot which is nice. 10/10 would spend 30 bloody minuets putting the i/o shield in.

Memory:

I bought this cheap on ebay, it works, that is good.

Storage:

Everyone seems to get this hdd so it must be good. 1tb is enough for all my games and it is faster then the hdd in my 5 year old laptop so its good i guess. I had a bit of money left over so I bought a ssd for a boot drive. Its very fast, windows boots instantly.

Graphics card:

I saw this rx 470 on sale so I bought it on a whim, I kinda wish I bought a rx 480 or gtx 1060 3gb instead because by the end of the build I had more money left over then i thought. Nevertheless this card has handled everything i thrown at it and should be fine for the foreseeable future.

Case:

This was the first part i bought about 2 months ago, it was very easy to build in and cable management was easy. The hard drive light is quite annoying though.

Power supply:

I was gonna buy a corsair cx power supply, but when i saw where it was ranked in psu tier lists i decided to get a good quality one, even if the 650w is overkill.

Benchmarks:

Unigine heaven score: 1229

Cinebench cpu score: 375

Cinebench OplenGL score: 115fps

Novabench score: 1320

Thanks for reading :)

Update

Finally bought a desk and chair for my room so now I don't have to sit on the floor. Everything in my pc works fine and have had no problems so far.

Pretty much everything in the build is the best you can get for price/performance. Well done! +1

I think you did a stellar job picking parts. I didn't come anywhere near this for my first build!

Nice build.

You should check you GPU frequency with MSI after burner and riva tuner to see if you GPU is down clocking. Some times the GPU which throttles down due to temps.

You should run actual games sun as Witcher 3, fallout 4 or any demanding title to check for instability when gaming. IF you don't see anything your good.

Thanks for the reply, I've checked my temps and the highest I've seen it go is 66 degrees so i don't think it is thermal throttling. the graphics card uses a single 6 pin connector so could the power draw be an issue, the graphics card is drawing 90 watts under load. Despite it being set at 1340mhz in msi afterburner my gpu frequency rarely reaches that while running unigine heaven.

That unigine score is actually really good. My best friend got 1400 with an i5 6400 and a 1060 3gb.

here i am with my 4,000 set up and nice desk and chair and sitting here feeling unsatisfied, thank you for waking me up man, hope you luck turns around soon and you find a way to make more money! broke my heart seeing that you sit on the floor

Thank you. I'm actually quite content with sitting on the floor at the moment seeing as though I've been playing on my ps4 while sitting on the floor for a year now :)

Okay honest opinion here. Nice build but:

Could have saved money on the power supply. 550 watts is plenty to run anything up to an i7 and a budget GPU like a 470/480 with it if it's got a good rating, or could have gotten lower rating for less.

But im in the US so I guess parts would be cheaper here.

Also I would have waited for ryzen 3/5 chips to come out But a PC is a pc
