Description

My first gaming pc build. Had to jury rig a few aspects of it such as the rear IO panel and the video card slot on the new case. Also managed to break two of the $20 ASUS Optical drives in the process...lol. Loved building it though and already planning out the next build!

Performance wise, I am able to play almost all games on the highest settings with very good/decent framerates. These games include Arma II and Arma III on very high settings with 50-60 fps.

Thanks guys!

10/16/14 - UPDATE: I've overhauled many parts such as the cpu, ram, mobo, and gpu over the past few months. Needless to say the beast keeps getting better. Next build will have better wire management which is where I think this build lacks.

1/27/15 - UPDATE: Got a new EVGA GTX 980 installed over the weekend. I plan to eventually upgrade to two 980s with a case upgrade as well. I'll upload more/better pictures once that all arrives.

Overall not bad, though the power supply comes from a brand with a reputation for failure.

Really? I wasn't actually aware of that. So far it hasn't had any problems. The primary reason I chose that power supply aside from the price and wattage was the blue led. I was going to go with a cooler master that had a blue led but this one has the ability to turn the light on/off. Thanks for your input!

Hopefully yours will be okay. I also wanted a PSU with LEDs but settled for a regular one. I am going to get RAM with LEDs on it though :D

Could've gotten a Cosair GS Series PSU. 80 Plus rated, BLue/Red/White LED, it would've served you better.

Normandy? By Archangel? Someone plays Mass Effect! :)

I like your build! Do you think 6 cores really provide a good boost in speed over quad-core?

One of the greatest games ever! I definitely think so. The processor on this build has been more than adequate to run multiple processes at once and games maxed out.

You could have added a few more dollars and gotten a power supply from a better company

I've used this power supply in two builds with no failing or any performance issues.

How do you like the keyboard? It's hard to find a good blue-lite keyboard, I plan on purchasing, thanks!

I really like it. I snagged this one used off ebay and it functions like a dream. The blue light has multiple levels of illumination and it came with Roccat's reknown software for macros. Love this keyboard; however, if you have the money get the isku fx. Millions of colors for each key.

how did you manage to break two optical drives?

The first one was defective. The second stopped working after I cut myself on my pc and got blood on the board lol. Puts a whole new meaning on putting blood sweat and tears into it.

How do the cpu and gpu handle games?

I can play every game with the stats maxed for the most part. I haven't found a game I can't max out yet. This CPU is legendary though and I recommend it to anyone searching for a CPU that can compete with intel's i7s.
