So,i started this build about 2 months ago, went pretty smooth considering this is my first pc build(Making the jump from Xbox1).I meticulously laid out all the parts I thought looked good together as I wanted it to be red and black themed,i studied each part just to make sure I wasn't gonna end up with parts that weren't compatible, and,i ende up with something I'm very happy with,i had one problem after i was almost finished, upon installing the H100i GTX one of the damn standoffs broke after I had 3 nice and snug, just one more check to see if they were finger tightened enough, and sure enough the dang thing snapped with not much pressure,so your notice in a few pics I have stock cooler on temporarily to get everything else set up.ill be using this for gaming, and some light video editing, and streaming movies and shows.i have win 10 on 240 ssd,and programs I use most, with my most played games on there also,i ordered some extra fans just incase one of mine goes out or I end up with another case,so,lemme know what ya guys think,i cant wait to do this again bc now after doing it once,i know the things I can do to make it even better and itll go al ot smoother for me.

UPDATE Corsair was totally awesome after telling them about the broken standoff, they just shipped me a whole new bracket kit,i only asked for 1 standoff/thumbscrew,so now I have some extras just incase I need one or maybe someone else needs one...and they sent it fast and free...how awesome of them!!so,all the photos after the broken standoff is the H100i GTX being put it there.

UPDATE 2 so,just added another monitor,LG 29' ultra wide and use the old old old hp one I had for a music display or to just drag it outta my way while doing other tasks!!also took the LED fan away from rear exhaust and put a 120mm corsair silent edition exhaust fan instead

UPDATE 3 I've taken the STRIX 970 card out and now have the MSI Gaming Z 1070...great card and I love it!!will add some pics of it installed tomorrow:)

UPDATE 4 finally ditched that ridiculous keyboard and broke down and grabbed a Corsair Strafe RGB KB,next is the desk I'm gonna build myself to accommodate the 540 since its so damn big!

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

runs nice and quiet, cant hear it till it up to about 75-80%,cant beat that, and it looks nice to the aesthetics as well!only problem was the silver logo that I had to pop off and turn the other way, even thou it doesn't sit in the groves like it does outta the box you cant tell once its installed,so don't bother me at all,i just couldn't make the tubes fit towards the back of the case without brushing the exhaust fan and blocking airflow.

Thermal Compound

wanted to get what normally comes on H100i outta the box,had to remove it when the standoff snapped, works great!

got this for most used programs and to put OS on,its very fast and don't break the bank, would def recommend and buy another.

its a harddrive, just needed something that was decently big and was good for the price, this does the trick and is remarkably quick so far.

Video Card

great card, upgraded from the strix 970 and this thing is smoking every game I pay totally maxed out, gamed the 970 was having some really bad stutter on even overclocked as high as I could get it,this card hasn't been overclocked by me yet but ive not had need o even try,can only imagine the things this can if I sit here and mess with it for a day and get it pushed to the perfect limit!!I recommend this card to anyone that can put up the funds to get it,its totally worth it!!

this thing is a beast!!!you will never have a problem with cable management with thing thing, and more room 4 ssds on the back side, cant fit almost any PSU,has I nice side panel for looking at your admiral work you've done inside it.lol.its great to work with and I'm very glad I went with thins instead of the Spec-3 case.

Power Supply

good PSU,has 2 modes if ya want those fans spinning or if ya want utter silence from it,it modular so that was a plus,i can still add another card to it,but I kinnda wish I spent a little more and got the AX-860,but this thing will be good for some time I'm pretty sure.

Operating System

I must say I was hesitant on getting win 10,i got it on the USB stick bc I wasn't planning on installing a optical drive,im going to save the 5.25 slot for maybe a nice fan controller after I add 2 more pull fans to the H100i GTX.but,i really like win 10 much more than win 7 now that ive gotten to learn how to use it and navigate it well, ive read so much bad stuff about it,but I must say it was all untrue in my case, runs all the newer game great, new menu is AWESOME,and its just a good experience as far as my trials with it.

Wireless Network Adapter

works great, ill have this hardwired up,but depending on how I choose to set up my new layout in the room its working good and I might just stick with using this as I cant tell a difference.

Case Fan

way better for my rear exhaust, had a 120mm at 90% speed to keep up with the 3 front intake fans and the 2 fans push config for the watercooled GT H100i cooler.

Case Fan

Love they have the rings to choose your color if your sticking to a color scheme.good fans, wish id of looked more bc I wanted all PWM but these do the trick just fine for the air intake to the case, and ill have 1 extra just incase one burns out or breaks.its nice they come with a voltage knock down to bc I'm running two off a splitter into 1 fan header and don't wanna over do it,doubt 2 would, but better safe than sorry I guess.

Case Fan

theses suckers are awesome,i got total control over them, they have god static pressure for rad's,the only bad thing is one of mine seems to have a slight noise coming from it that the other one don't once it gets over 50%,its not really loud, but you can tell if you put your ear in there and listen to them, they keep the rad cool and do the trick thou:)

Case Fan

thses fans are okay to pull air out the back while giving some light effect to the inside of the case, idk if ill keep it in there,or stick a red color ringed Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition to suck the air out the back, think ill add some white LED strips in the future and keep these as a extra fan or give em away.

this display is amazing, will be adding another 25" LG monitor to the setup as well, but as for this one in particular, its great, audio an be tricky to get setup, but everything works great, look beautiful, and all game I run off of my ASUS 970 look better than any display ive ever used before, ill tell ya thou, once you go to a ultra wide monitor, you will not be able to go back to anything else without having feeling that of something missing that your want back!!!!haha.29 is perfect size for most ppl,29 don't sound to big but once you set this thing up you will be pretty amazed at how BIG it really is,res looks great,no pixel problems,a great choice if your looking for something for games and just to have extra room for multitasking, you can easily have two full size screen up at once and if not on there already, you can go to lg site and download programs for auto resizing for 1-2x,several 3 page sizings,and4x sizing.if you pick it up hope you enjoy!!!!

great little speakers if your in a medium size room,i have older ppl living below me so didn't wanna piss them off with the floor pounding, with the bass at70% these guys will really get things pumping thou and the sound great in my room if not using y headset!!would def recommend to someone not trying to dish out a lot of cash for some sound.

Crtayao1 1 point 37 months ago

Pretty nice clean build almost identical as mine +1

johnny8557 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

yes, they would have really been identical if I went with my original set up.lol.i had almost everything the same till I switched for the ASUS instead of MSI card(I think the MSI woulda been a better choice,but...)does your cooler hit that fan back there!i wanted mine setup that way,but there was no way I could get it to not hit the fan,so I pooped off the silver logo and turned it around, with they made them logos to be flipped either way bc the strip was upside down till I switched it,cant really tell thou so its okay with me.haha.i like your setup thou, bud:)

NicoMan2240 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

That thing looks awesome! The quality of the pics isn't the best (but I've seen far worse so no hate). Cable management is on point. Seems like you got a good life going on. One question: Why not Skylake?

johnny8557 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 37 months ago

thanks, man:)I tried, with no help really but the PCPP site saying its compatible, and triple checking things just to be sure,i must of picked a bad time bc no one wanted to really help me with any advice till after I got it all ordered and halfway built, thats why I said I cant wait till the next one I build.lol.ill know a lot more things to look at rather than just kinnda rushing myself, but, this one will get the job done for awhile I hope:)as far as life...haha...well,it is great for me,itll be a take some adjusting and compromises without the job ive had,but life always throws a curveball when your content and I like challenge anyways:)thanks bud, appreciate the words.

The.Geeked. 1 Build 1 point 37 months ago

thanks!!this dog is a total nutball,man.haha

Britishbrat 1 point 37 months ago

This is almost exactly what I'm going for haha. Great build, inspired me to splurge on some red sleeved cables for the PSU. Great look.

johnny8557 submitter 2 Builds 2 points 37 months ago

I'll yell,if your just doing one pc,don't buy the whole cable kit like I did, just get whatever your card needs, your 24pin,and like a 8 pin for your mobo, and if ya want one for your optical drives to,ya would end up saving a good bit,I got that whole kit and it's enough for 3 basic builds, lol.they do like great thou, try to find some cable combs and it'll make em look even sharperand very neat!hope to see your pics, let me know when ya get it all done:)

Britishbrat 1 point 36 months ago

Thanks for the advice!

johnny8557 submitter 2 Builds 2 points 36 months ago

No problem bud:)it's nice to save some cash where ya can, especially when your dropping cash like this, lol, theres alot of company's I've seen that have just basic kits thatll power your mobo slots and your graphics card for like 30-40 bucks and they will even sleeve them just how ya like,so ya could get a few different colors on the 24 pin cable instead of just one solid color, and they actually put them cable combs on that aren't possible to do unless ya actually sleeve it yourself, after spending 70+ on a cable kit and another 20+ on just the 24pin,that's alot for cables that are probably just gonna end up sitting in a box.

johnny8557 submitter 2 Builds 2 points 36 months ago

Are you in the uk?if so your in luck bc I found most of the awesome company's that make those items are located over that way.

Britishbrat 1 point 36 months ago

Alas my name is deceiving. Born in the UK, but a US citizen now.

johnny8557 submitter 2 Builds 1 point 36 months ago

ah,we;;,still wont be a problem getting what ya need,bud...hope to see pics of your build someday:)ttyl and have a good night!!
