Description

This is my first built with no spare parts (except for the cpu cooler, mouse and keyboard). Back then i would grab random parts from my dad's workplace, off the street and gifts from other people.

I mainly play games like LoL (whilst streaming), Starcraft and Overwatch. However it really does vary depending which new games are out haha.

Part Reviews

CPU

I always dreamed of getting the top end i5 unlocked version since i started playing around with computers. Although it works very well, sometimes the 4 cores and 4 threads just aren't enough. When you're streaming, watching youtube and playing games all at the same time. However I still love how fast this thing runs.

CPU Cooler

I originally had a Thermaltake water 2.0 Performer (the cheapest one) that broke down after about two years. I sent it back to them and they gave me this in less than a week. So definitely no complaints at all for this one. Although i do like pother ones more, i keep this as a reminder to always ask when things don't work.

Motherboard

Sadly in the 1151 series motherboards, there aren't any black and blue ones which suit my taste. So i opted for this however I now dislike this as it lacks usb ports at the back now that type c is the new thing. 4 usb ports aint very handy

Storage

Raid 0 on these. Doesn't really make a huge difference i have to say.

Video Card

Love this card. The aesthetics and stuff. Still waiting for it to go on clearance so i can sli them

I just came from an MSI 960 100 ME to a 390x and the difference is night and day! I loved my 960, though!

It's official: The trend for 2016/2017 is tempered glass

Gotta say, it does look a lot nicer than plexiglass. My Core v71 might have to visit a custom glass shop sometime..... ;)

Nice build mate I'm like the colours of black and blue.

The build I'm planning for me and my girlfriend to both use has to be black and blue and this would be perfect.

+1 as I think this looks really nice. Ashame you couldn't get the black and blue motherboard.

yea. But i guess i'm thankful with what i have. Link me yours when you build one. I'd be happy to see black and blue colour schemes.

What did you end up doing with the HDD? It looks like you removed the HDD bracket to install fans and i dunno if the 805 supports hdd without the bracket.

There is an H-Tower build but I think it was done before the In win cases were added as parts

Here it is

So, tell me, did you ever consider the 805i instead of the regular 805? Is the price of it just too high to justify a useless, albeit, cool front panel window?

  • 1 point

haha, well the 508i prototype came out before the 508 so i was intrigued. But when i saw the honeycomb look I just felt that the front lighting wouldn't have to be so overbearing. In the end I think people will be more amazed by the front than whatever's inside haha.

Like the look of Thermaltake AIOs. How's this one doing?

Seems like you won the silicon lottery with your i5, h-

Windows has encountered a problem and needs to restart. =(

Very nice build regardless. +1.

thanks mate, yea it's holding up nicely. Although many people don't like thermaltake for its products, I think their customer service is really good. I got this cooler for free tbh since the old water 2.0 broke. Yea i5's pretty good too haha.

Inwin build looking beautiful as ever! I love how you used the pre-sleeved cablemods cables, haven't seen them out in the wild yet!

  • 1 point

yea i think they're pretty good to a certain extent. I think i would have preferred to buy from the cablemod configurator. I see that most of their wires come straight. I spent a lot of time just trying to bend them the way i wanted them to but yea it's not easy without a good cable comb (which i don't have).

btw, just saw your High School Computer Club Build. That's pretty amazing what you have there. I saw that you're interested in mechanical engineering. Just to let you know, i'm also doing mech eng in uni right now. I recently found out that this subject really requires passion to do well in. So yea be passionate about what you do :D

  • 2 points

Thank you so much man! I'm definitely going to stick with it, would love to also become a mech engineer.

Good luck in engineering, any ideas where you might want to go after uni?

  • 1 point

I think it's going to be pretty hard to find a job for mech engineering in Australia since most of the motor companies have turned away. Most likely would go to China since they have quite a high demand atm.

Why a 960 instead of RX 470/480?

"Video Card $0.00 AUD

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 4GB"

free :3

  • 1 point

nah just from my old build :)

  • 2 points

Free is relative. Just sayin' its factored into this build as a free part, haha. Instead of shelling out for a more expensive one

  • 1 point

Yea my description is a bit off haha

  • 1 point

Because they don't have any blue ones which is legit the main issue. Plus there was no such thing as that when i bought it last year :)

  • 1 point

Actually the RX 480 came about 2 months before you did your build (assuming the date you put was correct) but considering you got it from an old build it makes sense. 1+ anyway because its still a great build

  • 1 point

I guess the question comes back to why? why would I buy a Rx480? I simply can't find an answer sorry :(

  • 1 point

Considering the price of the 480 is 350$ in Australia and you had a GTX 960 lying around you really had no need to. I wrote my original comment assuming you bought the 960 when you built this which would be stupid considering the 470 is only 20$ more expensive and you get much more bang4buck with that card. But now that I realized you had it from a previous build you dont need to buy a new GPU for atleast 2 more years

  • 1 point

I'm curious, how loud/quiet is the build? I'm considering an 805 for my next build - though I know its not silent, I'm concerned it would leak much more noise than a Fractal or H440.

  • 1 point

no, the case can leak a lot especially if you components don't function well. I can hear the water running through atm.

  • 1 point

Does that case lighting change? Not that it matters cause I might be putting a blue build in it anyways.

  • 1 point

no, it's just a static led strip off ebay :)

  • 1 point

awwwwwwwwwww wait will led fans shine through like that do you think?

  • 1 point

it will shine through just fine.

Just out of interest where did you mount your HardDrive? (Since you removed the driver cage)

In an extrernal hard drive cage. Next to the monitor.
