Description

This was a machine I built for my sister on a tight budget. It is used (aside from regular things like chrome), gaming, and 3d Modeling. This is a 1000% average build with a decent overclock on both the motherboard and graphics card, and no frills. It was nice that the PC gods were happy today because I got a wraith spire instead of a wraith stealth with this cpu. It also would have been nice if AMD would make their FREAKING B450 boards already, as it was a pain in the a** to go get a first gen ryzen chip out of another PC to flash this thing.

Part Reviews

CPU

I still can't believe I got a decent quad core for $80. Also, The guy at microcenter tried to tell me not to get a 580 because of this thing's iGPU, and it is easily the best iGPU I have come across. So I bought a 580 anyways.

Motherboard

This is the basic b350 board from asrock. It is probably indestructible, and it looks pretty nice too. I took a star off because the bios was abysmal, but if it wasn't they probably wouldn't sell any fatal1ty boards.

Memory

I swear I have used this kit a million times, and I will probably use it a million more. It overclocks nice, it feels high quality (cough teamgroup cough) and it looks ok too.

Video Card

This thing felt eerily light when I picked it up, but it seems to do ok. 10/10 would buy again over the 1060 3gb partly because it has better dx12 support, but also because it is nice to have a full proper 4gb of vram. I feel like we have been over this with nvidia before, but I could be wrong.

Case

I actually have the white one, but that doesn't matter too much, as the led on the front of the case is properly white, the case is just as easy as you would expect to build in, and there aren't any of those hideous grey fans corsair always put in their cases in this one. 4/5 because mine came without the top dust filter.

Power Supply

for $25, I am thrilled to have a decently reliable power supply that has all black cables. I don't even care that it isn't modular its so cheap.

You must have done something right, My firestrike score is 11875 with a ryzen 7 1700, msi gtx 1060 6gb and 16 gb of the same ram you have. :)

BIOS is bad?? I quite like it in my opinion

It lacks a lot of options. For example, for the life of me I couldn’t find a way to overclock the cache, or up the dram voltage.

DRAM voltage is easy. It's in the oc tweaker tab, just below the CPU voltage area. If this doesn't help, then just chuck me a DM and I'll send out more specific locations as I cant remember at the moment.

No. I mean that something isn’t playing nice with this particular board. I have overclocked a lot in the past, and in this case I tried the ram in a different pc and the voltage readings I got on both were different. I assumed it was an issue with the bios. The setting exists, it just doesn’t seem to do a whole lot for me.

Yeah, my ram doesn't work over 2400 in this board either. I have a Corsair kit spec 3000..

B450 boards are available. Newegg has the ASRock B450M-HDV for sale:

Well I guess they have them now. They certainly didn’t have them at microcenter, but it doesn’t make a difference any more.

Only the 275R w/ tempered glass comes with the top dust filter. You buy the acrylic one, that's why.

Overall your build looks cool, I like it.

is there a vertical gpu mount?

Yes, however it is extremely close to the side panel, and the case doesn't come with a pcie extender, so I didn't use it.
