Description

It's my first build so don't hate the player hate the game! I'm a pensioner.....so buying computer bits is what I've been doing with my spare cash .....so it's a long involved process. I got some good gear together but with x99 and ddr4 round the corner just put the line in the sand and thought I'd build one!

I'm a pc gamer....I surf and use my puter for games mostly. I struggle to watch movies and stuff but can spend long hours playing games so a good gaming machine is a must for me....which is mostly my picking of all of these parts! Also....I've never overclocked anything so thought I'd like a mid range puter to experiment a bit.....something I'd hate to do with really high end components which I thought I would do when I started this project!

Happy as larry with my selections and the build. Only downside was the ram was bought for an original blue build but I loved the look of the ranger mb and it had so many features that I was looking for. I had ( I passed it on to family ) a 1366 i7 and this build still beats it. Sure I use more of the processor in the games I play but I don't mind that. My old i7 used like 30% in some games...this i5 uses 60%. I'm happy about that and although I haven't played with the overclocking yet I've only hit like 35 degrees with the h100 at like 60%....I know that will change when I torture it but optimistic where this will go!

So....750D great case.... heaps of room for cables and looks sweet as. i5...does everything I thought it would and moving down from an i7 wasn't a bad choice in this build. Maximus vii ranger is a great entry level board for what it gives you...software is great. Looks bad *** and I think it was a better buy than the hero which at $50 more only had an extra chassis fan connection which would come in handy! Samsung evo is a non brainer...just pissed as usual cause it's so much cheaper than when I bought it at $179. Would have liked the 780 but 770 was at price point. It runs good so far and I'm moving up from a 760 so it's better than that where I ran most things with high setting anyways!

So first build went well! I'll save up now and try to buy most things at once.....everything moves so fast these days that with a budget you get screwed trying to buy bits at a time! Meantime I'm having fun.....770 turned up late so i'd built the puter before it showed up.....I'll add some more pictures in a week after payday......will try to get some led strips in white and an led red fan to help with the look of it......maybye one day I'll swap out the blue ram to red...but it isn't a priority!

Couple of hassles....the Corsair link doesn't work happily with the windows 8.1 but it's still functional to a degree....probably save myself some cash with the 760i but oh well.. Also, One of the corsair sp120 fans wasn't functional....so a bit of drama to figure out the startup problem but a good experience.....I troubleshooted well.

All parts apart from the cooler are bought from pccasegear.......love their work and can't speak too highly of them and their service!

All comments appreciated....thanks for looking!

+1 for overuse of the word puter.

You definitely overpaid for a lot of this stuff (Unless you were including taxes). And if you're shelling out $235 for the memory, I would've spent the extra bucks to go up to 2133 or 2400. Nice build though!

aussie prices are overpaying for everything.....lol

rogueone submitter 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

yeah it wasn't saving too much but I went for quality...I'd definitely do some different things...this was my first build!

There really aren't any bad companies that make RAM anymore. They kind of died out.

Dentothor 1 Build 1 point 36 months ago

Never said it was bad ram lol. And an AUD is a little more valuable than a CAD dollar, as I'm a Canadian and know what the prices are here. That's the only reason I expected lower prices.

I was actually replying to the builder because he said he went for quality. Pretty much every brand has great quality.

Change the ram Im OCD for this stuff

There are videos on youtube that show how to get Corsair Link to recognize the H100i by making a few changes to your registry. The changes aren't harmful either, I can vouch.

hey....thanks! I got the corsair link working and it's good....I think well worth the extra in coin you pay for it! All power and fanspeeds/pump etc are there and it's a good thing to see it all at a glance! A worthy thing I'd imagine!

Just a tiny bit more cable management and LED strips :3 +1
