Description

Had to deploy a bit of tom foolery while adding parts as the "build" contains multiple PC's and the "other" section seems to have a limit, I would think there would be an option for that with the emerging multi motherboard cases but I digress.

All three PC's including the Surface Book are very much intertwined, outputting and ingesting audio and video signals to and from each other with the two towers being cooled by one massive water cooling loop.

Other than that I think the name speaks for itself.

It's amazing to me that one can purchase all of this for only about 20k. Oh how the world of tech has evolved, it's just absolutely incredible. I mean hell, I work from home and all I need to do my job well is a ~$5,500 setup. A friend of mine is a farmer and he started his business with a 640k loan/partial subsidy from the government. Isn't it incredible how the world has changed?

Apologies, I digress.

I think the water-cooling solution you've come up with is damn clever and I love that you took it to heart and built it into the walls. That deserves massive kudos. It's unique, gutsy and I'm sure, really effective. I really enjoy the simplicity of your main build, it fits-in very well with the complete setup, which of course is totally monstrous.

The most shocking thing is the water cooling loop, there have been enough multi builds in a single case that I have seen, but you took it one step further by adding a complete custom loop to your basement. Doesn't it cause thermal issues? When Linus (Linus' tech tips) did whole room water cooling it kinda failed. Thermals were a big issue. Nontheless the build looks just amazing, I'm kinda speechless. This must have taken ages to build and set up. Good job dude!

  • 8 points

Linus was definitely my inspiration to attempt this, luckily he showed us how not to do it so I could do it right haha

It gets very hot in my room and adding something like a window AC unit is much too loud as one of the main purposes of the setup is audio production, lots of microphone recording. By moving the heat out of the room into another while simultaneously eliminating the need for computer fans has really got my noise levels in check. And by using rubber tubing instead of copper piping in the room I'm trying to cool down the grand majority of the heat is dissipated in the walls and then the radiators in the basement.

Happy to say it's been a big success, the only time it gets moderately hot in here now is when I have all my displays turned on at once, not really sure what to do about that. Maybe if I had the resources I could look into water cooling displays, maybe in the future ;)

Thank you for the kind words!

Really amazing setup but im really wondering why the hell do you need an interface and a mixer your interface are capable more than your mixer Or you use it to control volume in real time even there is a midi faders that can use the RME software

  • 1 point

I mix almost everything between the two RME interfaces (that are interconnected via ADAT), and then simply run the outputs to the Mackie so I can physically adjust volume. This way way I don't need to alt-tab out of full screen applications, or constantly use Totalmix (RME's mixer) with a mouse which isn't nearly as easy as using physical sliders. On top of those reasons I am capable of leaving system(s) & mic volume at max so in recordings game, mic, and discord volumes are un-altered. This allows me to tune volumes to the level I want to hear on the physical mixer while recorded volume is flat for post production mixing. For example in something like PUBG I am constantly adjust volume on the physical mixer as I want volume very high while listening for footsteps, but very low while traveling in vehicles.

Additionally I run my console volume (Switch / PS4 via TV) and Surface Book's volume (over USB) through the mixer untouched by the RME cards. The Mackie was the smallest board I could find with the right amount of inputs, a board with a USB connection, 6 stereo inputs, and a few outputs and submixes would be ideal.

  • 1 point

Thats really cool setup i hope it doesn't downsample or add latency or something I Wish i could buy an RME interface those are really expensive But this is really complex setup and did you map a virtual channels for specific programs? Or a slider for a hardware like PC and your PS4?

I like how it looks and the price point is reasonable for all that you have going on in that room. I would only change one thing in there though and that would be the wire management system under the table. But it works for your setup and I admire the work you have put into it and appreciate you sharing it with us.

Pulling a Linus Tech Tips with whole house water cooling are we?

Seriously though, the only other person I would see doing this whole house water cooling is Linus. Good to see that there's more than one person doing crazy water cooling experiments other than Jay or Linus! :D

  • 1 point

I have no words that can describe this. Perhaps it needs none. Why didn't you just run cool tap water through the loop while you were at it. Seems like a great idea aside from calcium buildup. Serious question begins here. Any idea what the power draw on the entire setup is?

  • 2 points

I definitely wouldn't want to worry about any kind of sediment which as you mentioned would come naturally with tap. I started looking into water chillers after I had ordered all the parts, seemed like a pretty good option. However they are much louder and create even more heat, not to mention most people use chillers to push water temp far below room temp at which point you have to worry about condensation, this would likely be another issue with tap.

I have no idea what the power draw is, sounds a bit fascinating maybe I'll look into it. I can tell you this much - when I receive the the power bill it compares the power consumed at my house to the surrounding average, not a pretty picture.

Hi! I'm new to the PC building arena, and I was wondering, how much is too hot for the CPU? I don't want to break it...

  • 1 point

Wow. Thats one amazing build. Whats the cooling tdp for the cooling loop. Looks like there is 4 560 radiators so it could cool 3-4 of those computers?

  • 1 point

I think it's something like 800w per rad (they are slim), not to mention that much of the heat is being dissipated via the copper tubing in the walls.

I could probably cool 5 systems comfortably, I knew very little going into this project but each time I do something like this I learn a ton. If I could go back I would have went with 2, but hey now I have a "little" headroom ;)

  • 1 point

There's 3 things wrong with this PC 1. 1 additional M.2 2280-M compatible slot is needed. 2. 4 additional RAM slots are needed. 3. Intel - Core i9-7900X 3.3GHz 10-Core Processor does not include a stock CPU cooler. Adding a CPU Cooler to your part list is recommended.

  • 1 point

You're confused because the "build" contains 2 systems. The CPU is being cooled by the whole room loop as seen in the pictures, the CPU waterblock is listed under custom parts.

Why are there so much cooling fans?

I have a saved list where I try to go to the limit, but you send it fully... By the way, it looks dope, sometimes it is a little messy but that comes with a big setup like this...
