Description

Hi Mates,

this is a still on going built of mine. You can find a worklog at bit-tech: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=273891

I will edit lots of details here next week why I choose which parts and so on :)

CPU choice: A i5 4690k would have been enough but I choose to go the enthusiast way and to go big. I bought this selected i7 Monster which is highly overclockable. You can find a OC screenshot in the Gallery. With this beast I will manage 4k gaming at High settings.

Thermal Compound: It's good compound and pretty cheap therefore I went with it.

Motherbord: I started with this Project last year there I bought the z87x-oc. After Devils Canyon was released. I sold the old Model and bought the new OC beauty. GA is not known to have boards which reduces Vcore (there are more used for Ln2 benching), but the Orange is just too eye catching than to go with a usuall red/black

Memory: It is a highly overclockable DDR3 Ram. It comes with Samsung chips on it which are pretty good :).

Storage: I've got a ton of Data which wants to be stored. I could buy a huge stock of those Seagate HDD. I am still not sure if I use them in this project or not. I may build a NAS in the further Future ( still don't know). The Crucial Mx100s are the best SSD when you compare Price/performance. The Samsung Evos are pretty good, too but in day to day work you will not realize any difference. My choice here isn't still fixed. I may go with bigger once if I choose to build a NAs for storage.

Graphics: Well everyone know that one 970 isn't enough for 4k Gaming. Therefore I will get a SLI. I will buy only GPUs from EVGA because everything in this rig will be watercooled.

Case: I fell in love with the Corsair 900D. The only one who was complaining about it was the Mailman cause the Case is just huge :)

PSU: I neede a silent, but powerfull PSU which had to be Full modular cause I will make my own wire and sleeving. I tested a lot of PSUs, went to the Cebit in Hannover (germany) and then choose the Antec HCP 850.

Monitor: I still got an Dual Monitor setup. In the near Future I will add a thid one which will be a 4k Monitor.

Fans: Fans fans fans, I neede a **** load of them to stack them on the rads in push/pull. With that I get decent silent cooling power.

Everything is so bloody expensive. Standard Seagate 2TB drives for €161.19?! Where do you live?

Edit: Germany, huh? Well I know where I'm not going to live...

I just found them right now for that much. I paid 30 Bucks less than that for each. But overall Hardware is really expensive over here

That is 402 USD worth of fans you have there.

Looking good so far

Why red and black ram when you have an orange and black theme?

  • 1 point

that's easy cause it won't stay red and black :D I stripped the Spread Headder of ( just two screws) and opened the Ram to mount Liquid cooling spreaders on them

Ok cool!

That fan may be called the Noiseblocker but running 20 of them will not be silent!
Also, if you're so in love with that case why aren't you even using its cable management features?

  • 2 points

Because the built isn't finished and I didn't do any CM. I got 19 PL2 and they will run at 700rpm at most which is pretty silent then. My Aquaero 5 is just for that and for the pump

I want to like this but I need to see the finished product! When will you be done?

U can never have enough fans

  • 1 point

I think you could have gone with caselabs cases for this kind of hardcore build. I just happen to hate corsair with their poor QC and prices that are mostly made of their brand name. I mean they used to do better than this

Other than my rant with corsair, it's a great build even though I would personally love to see the white blacknoise fans with white and black scheme build :P

I building that right now in a different built for a friend of mine There I will put together a X99 system with NB eloops which are blackwhite in a Tj07. I love this case :)

For now not, but the new exchanged HDDs are running in a Raid, I change frm Seagate Barracudas to WD 4tb Reds

  • 1 point

how do you power all those fans?

  • 1 point

I am using a normal Aquaero 5 which is also liquid cooled instead of passive and a Poweramp with that i can get all the Fans running at max if I want---> I don't I want them to have them as quite as possible

  • 1 point

+1 because SpecificAlduin.exe has stopped working. Error code: 1337: Awesome Overload

  • 1 point

Mabye I need to turn thouse fans higher that SpecificAlduin is cooled, too

  • 1 point

I love orange! It's very uncommon in the PC building world.

  • 1 point

Yeah, that was I thought, too before I started the build. Everyone is using red and black or white, but not Orange or Green

  • 1 point

I truly love your build and I have a question if you do not mind.

When setting the fans up in the 'basement', how do you have them set?? Exhausts, intake or both?? I ask because I am wanting to build using this case and I have yet to see or understand how having that many fans in the basement helps. Would you be willing to help a fellow builder out?

  • 1 point

sorry for the late reply, but was really busy and could just now get back intouch with the project and its following worklog maintanance

The Fans are running in a push/pull config that means the outside once push the air through the rad and the inside once are pulling the air. WIth that i reach a abnormal high cooling perfomance with low speed turning of the fans the are runnning at only 7 v (arround 800rpm)

There is such thing as making your components too cold but only if you're using stuff like ln2

  • 1 point

zachar answer is true. with Lq you can't overcool your parts

it only works with dice or ln2
