Description
Just finished building this. I have re built an old system before using a new case and power supply but this was my first build using mainly new parts.
I'm a very casual gamer so didn't want to spend lots on a graphics card, I picked up a second hand GTX 650 which far from being great, is sufficient for my needs. Edit 2016 - sold GTX 650 and bought GTX 950
Having a little bit of experience, it went together quite well, i was looking for something that was reasonably priced but was still decent and on the whole I'm happy with the parts I have chosen.
I called it 'mixed bag' because some bits were taken from a 5yr old HP desktop, such as the optical drive, hard drive and the windows 7 key, everything else was bought from Amazon and came to about £300. Edit - 2015 upgraded windows 7 to windows 10
The case actually has 4 drive bays but i removed 2 of them as i wasn't going to use them and they were blocking the airflow from the front fan
Part Reviews
Motherboard
This has what I needed but it is probably the part I regret buying most. The size of it width ways is smaller than a normal MATX board and it doesn't look that good in my build.
For an extra £10 I could and would have got the B85 MATX motherboard from MSI if I had my time over again.
Memory
Not much to say on this, it's RAM, it does its job and is good for the price
Storage
Good for the money, haven't done any real tests as to how it performs but seems quick and scores 7.9 on my windows index
Case
Good for the money, Cheapish dust filter on the bottom lets it down a bit. could be better, but i suppose it would cost more then, on the whole, I'm happy with it for the price
Power Supply
It's doing its job, can't speak on reliability yet as I haven't had it long enough but will post back if there is any problems
Speakers
Decent for the money, good base and treble
