Description

build evolved slowly over time, starting with a raidmax viper case, no ssd, and a gtx 660ti. what i've learned from my previous build is: don't buy raidmax cases.

I installed an NZXT Kraken G10 on my previous GTX 770 windforce, but ended up giving that card to my brother once I got my 980. sorry i dont have any pictures of my rig with the 980 inside.

over all the parts work very well, don't have any complaints really

final step for my build is putting it under water, and that will happen some time in 2015

Amazing build man! Love how in the final pic you've got this fancy new PC and that big old potato of a TV is just chilling the background :)

nice build. But, I have one thing to say: What is wrong with you for not playing on that small crt tv? ;)

i keep that tv because it's the only way i can watch Hercules on VHS

How is that MSI 980? Would you reccomend it over an ASUS or EVGA variant?

  • 2 points

absolutely glorious. since building my first pc, my first gpu was MSI, then EVGA, then Gigabyte, and now i'm back to MSI because my first card was so beast at the time and i love the twin frozr. my EVGA 760 tore like crazy and my windforce 770 was really loud and voltage locked. MSI is my choice for GPU's

Have you ever had to work with MSI customer service or RMA a product?

  • 2 points

nope, between my 2 cards and like 3 msi mobo's i've never had to RMA anything, but as far as i know their customer service is not great compared to EVGA

Does the nzxt cooler with the 980 run quieter and cooler than the stock cooler

  • 1 point

the kraken g10 was on my gtx 770, not my 980, but it was much quieter than my windforce cooler was, and the card never broke 54*c no matter how hard i pushed it

Was stock cooler louder or quieter than the kraken g10

  • 1 point

depends on the fan you use with it, in my case the fan that came with the H55 was quieter than the windforce cooler was

Does the vram stay cool enough bc I ve seen reviews and one of them said that the vram isnt cooled well enough as the stock cooler

  • 1 point

it's not cooled as well because it's barely cooled at all, but result vary by card, my card had a slight memory overclock and i never had any issues with overheating. you can always get a few of those little metal heatsinks as well

A zone that may contain danger. Especially with that cat. =p lol, nice build. +1

By putting it under water you mean youre putting it in mineral oil right?

  • 1 point

no, i mean building a custom water loop, not actually putting the pc under water. i have a bad habit of metaphors

  • 1 point

darn, i was hoping someone would actually put one in mineral oil, it looks awesome. On the other hand, that would look sick with water cooling!

So did you use an h60 for the g10 bracket and an h60 for the CPU?

I love the idea of the G10 synergizing with an AIO cooler. The only thing I would worry about was having one fan to cool the VRAM vice (what I think, don't know for sure...) the video card cooling system cooling both the VRAM and GPU chip. All in all, this is a super shmexy setup!

the h60 is not compatible with the g10 because of the pump, i used an H55 with it which is pretty much the same thing except with an asetek pump. vrm temps vary per card, i did not have any trouble with overheating on my gtx 770, but i hear a lot of amd users have trouble with it

yeah i'm so tempted to get a g10 in white for my computer (it's in a purple led, white, black setup), I just don't wanna damage the card.

Good to know about using the H55. I'll keep that in mind!

That is a very unique and interesting case. I like how it is all open. Oh yeah, and the cat is an awesome tool to help you show off. Nice job!

I love that case, too bad it's so damned expensive. Nice build +1! Also, I would really recommend getting some kind of side table to lift the case off the floor.

the psu is in the back, facing vertically-down, and the fan for the h60 is blowing down, so I dont need to worry about the carpet really.

Awesome build! That doesn't look like an H60 cooler though.

I see now after looking through all the picture that it is an H55, maybe just a listing error.

the best part was the case came entirely in pieces, you have to assemble the entire cage before you can build in it, but i saw the case at PAX 2 years ago and i was like "i HAVE to have it". only 500 were made, mine is #445

Instant downvote, you said "swag". JK Nice build and very unique.
