Description

Once I knew that I wanted to build a PC I soon was overcome by the many options I had before me. Thankfully with the help from r/buildapc and this wonderful site I made something I can be proud of! This is my gaming machine, it is used for other general tasks but the direction of this build was purely gaming. I wanted longevity so I knew I had to go with Intel. I planned to overclock and Crossfire/SLI in the future so I settled with the MSI Gaming 5 Motherboard. The rest of the build was based on what had the best reviews/performance for the price. Assembling all the parts was incredibly easy (especially for a first build) and thankfully I didn't encounter any DOA parts. I had plenty of room to work with thanks to NZXT's wonderful H440. I initially had the black/red case but soon painted it black/black. I couldn't be more satisfied with my purchase. I will enjoy this for years to come!

Part Reviews

CPU

I couldn't ask for anything better. Impeccable performance!

CPU Cooler

This baby is quite amazing. It looks wonderful and performs great as well. It took my temps from 75+ under load with stock cooler to 55. Nothing to complain about here.

Motherboard

2 words... Bad ***! Cant beat the price/performance. The looks are what make it a home run!

Storage

Does what it needs to do. Worth the buy.

Video Card

Wonderful card for the price. Hard to beat MSI Twin Frozr 280 for $200. Only downside is the locked core voltage. Limits the overclocking potential. Still able to get excellent performance from it.

Case

Just wow. This case is a must have for any mid tower. The looks are so sexy!

Power Supply

Great PSU! High quality parts and black sleeved cables are great.

The H440 looks gorgeous in all black, I wish they came like that stock. What brand/type of paint did you use if you don't mind me asking? I've been thinking of doing the same thing myself, and it looks like you managed a really clean finish.

I used krylon plastic bonding paint. Gloss black.

Very good build! Cheers to the H440 Club. Btw, did you use plastidip or spraypaint for the black? Looks clean.

I used a spray paint for plastics. Couldn't find plastidip where I live.

Looks amazing, again, I love the all-black h440. Does the black/red version of the case come with red LED lights? That's the only thing turning me off from getting one and painting it. I don't really like red LEDs and I don't know how I would switch them for white ones.

No, all the LEDs on the case are white.

A bit of a rage comment here lol. So I am building a new pc for 2200$ and for the name I decided to stick with Obsidian Dragon because I use the Obsidian 450D case from corsair and everything inside is either msi or just red (ram). Why did you go with this name?)

Sorry to hear that. With everything being black and red I just thought it fit the bill.

Why did you use a VGA cable? Doesn't it limit the resolution to 1600x900 (900p)?

At the time, that was the only cable I had. I had a HDMI in the mail at the time of the pictures being taken.

Oh, cool! +1 for the custom paint job! And, the Minecraft poster too (brings back memories).
