Description

Had a lot of fun building this.

No real issues, apart from the normal; did I screw that in too hard, should I be bending my motherboard that much, these SATA cables are way too stiff... etc

Guys on here recommended a better PSU and glad I did. EVGA unit was perfect.

Like the NZXT case a lot.

Nothing much else to say. This i5 runs real cool. Could have easily got away with the stock cooler, pity it was so ugly. Happy with the benchmark numbers and with how the machine looks overall!

Update

Got a great deal on a 8600K so i went for the upgrade. Upgraded to a Mugen 5 Rev. B cooler too.

Currently have it OCed to 5GHz @1.29V and 73C peak (Prime95).

I got it to 5.1GHz @1.33V but temps were in the low 80s so not worth it. Will settle with a nice round 5GHz.

Part Reviews

CPU

Amazing chip, love it.

Have mine clocked to 5GHz @ 1.28V. Pushed it to 5.1GHz @1.33V stable (Prime95) but my air cooler couldn't keep it under 80C, so I stuck with 5GHz.

CPU Cooler

Able to keep my 8600K at 73C with a 5GHz over clock. Really great cooler and super easy to install.

Motherboard

Nice board. Very high build quality as you would expect from ASUS. The only bit that wasn't great was the IO shield, but it's a minor issue.

Memory

No issues, running @ 3000 and works great.

Storage

Fast read and writes but deep queue 4K it's not great, bad even. Cheaper than other SSDs at this size, so I guess there had to be a drop in performance somewhere.

Storage

Cheap and solid. Great for additional storage.

Video Card

What you come to expect from EVGA. Perfect with no issues and runs great!

Power Supply

Didn't know much about PSUs but did my research before I got this. Very high build quality, and works great.

Case Fan

The name says it all. Steal at 10 bucks!

Keyboard

My first mech keyboard and it's great. Really solid and heavy, love the Cherry Browns.

Mouse

Feels a little cheap in the hand for the cost, but the inbuilt software is great.

I was looking around for parts for my first pc build when I noticed how you have pretty much the exact same part selection as I do. I guess great minds think alike! I also feel the same way about the stock cpu cooler.

For $20 bucks deffo worth dumping the stock... at least that’s the way I feel!

No gripes with any of the parts and she performs great! Good luck with yours.

Nice! I wish I’d spent a little more on the keyboard. How’s your Corsair? Like your fans too...kept mine less blingy, wife doesn’t get it!
