Description

Just completed this today. Needs a few cable managment tweaks with the RGB i installed (Deepcool 360).

Absolutely Loving the Samsung 950 pro. Its insane. I get 15 seconds boot to in-game load times, if not less.

Realise i went overboard with the CPU and PSU for gaming, although i do do a fair amount of CAD work and some video editing.

The theme is red and white. I replaced the standard 140 SP fans with the red lit LED versions for the H115i. The dominator white LED RAM do well to match the stock white 140mm fans as well as the MSI lit logo and corsair water cooler logo.

I flashed my Gaming X 1080 with the Gaming Z bios to slightly increase my clocks although i found no appreciable difference in max OC with this bios. Just stick to manual OC with After burner. I also just OCed my CPU to 4.0ghz.

Welcome any comments/recs.

Thanks for your feedback.

P.s. Megalodon was an ancient shark..a distant relative of the great white......except it was 3 or 4 times bigger. Apparently became extinct due to lack of food in a changing climate. Fun history fact.

Nice build man. I have the same benq monitor :) it might only be 1080p but man are those 144hz worth the compromise haha. I'd take that over 1440p 60hz any day.

Thanks...Yep.... 100% needed for FPS gaming. Was actually considering a 4k monitor but they are mostly 60hz and ridiculously expensive..not that the 2430 isnt. But we are not at the stage yet to get 144hz @ 4k lol

Oh yeah man, 4k panels are pretty insane and not just in visuals but price too... We're no where near the stage of 4k 144hz. But imagine what that would be like! begins to salivate

I salvaged my trusty old OCZ Vertex 3 SSD. Thing has served me well.

how does a 6 core 3.6GHz compare to a 4 core 4.0GHz for gaming? I understand that you can overclock it to be 4.0GHz but you can also overclock the 4 core to above 4.0GHz and if a few frames is all you lose really and what you gain is enough cpu power to effectively render videos faster for editing and such I think this cpu might be the more economical option for someone interested in editing and uploading videos as well as gaming right?

Just looked at some BMs and there is no appreciable difference in performance between stock 6700 and 6850 for gaming. I assume that will be the case if both were OCed to 4ghz. I do video editing and CAD work so i do need the processing power too.

yeah i think the X99 chips are more for if you are doing heavy video stuff.

Megalodon isn't a distant relative from the great white in fact they both evolved from a common ancestor and coexisted for 10 million years. Just saying. Nice build though. Don't know why you didn't go for a red and black case though.

Was considering the black case..but i thought everything was black on the desk so wanted to break the dark abyss that was my desk. lol

OC the chip and you'll gain them back :P

Its all based on the same architecture, it just has more cores on the LGA 2011-3 socket and is clocked lower.

Not quite true. You can easily OC the 6850k to be equal and the fps difference will be within 1-2 fps. Also if he is looking at streaming or doing other CPU intensive tasks then the extra two cores will help.
