Description

I used to have a ps4 for gaming but after experiencing my friends gaming pc I have decided to sell my ps4 and build a Gaming PC to enjoy 60fps.

Update: Upgrade my exist wireless card. Using the Tp-link N900 is so much better. I also install OS X to my system.

Part Reviews

CPU

CPU: The intel xeon e3-1231v3 is a beastly processor that get the job done and it was manufactured in my country (Vietnam) so I got it for cheap. Around 250$ cad so why not?

CPU Cooler

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master 212-evo. Not very necessary but I use it because it look cooler than intel stock cooler. I also get it for free from my friend.

It does the job keeping my cpu in the mid 50 under load

Motherboard

Mobo: MSI B85M-E45 is cheap, has 4 slot of ram. The mobo doesn't matter much so.......yeah

Memory

Ram: G.skill sniper 1600-cas9 It a good quality ram. Gaming it doesn't matter so I get the cheapest -decent looking ram I can get

Storage

Very good quality and reliable. Also come with 5 year warranty

Video Card

Beastly card that run all game 60fps + at 1080p. Expensive but worth it. It is also death silent and cool looking

Case

Premium quality case and easy to work with.

Power Supply

Get the job done. I don't really overclock so no need for expensive PSU

How do you overclock a xeon? Lol :D

I think the 3.8GHz is the boost clock :P

  • 1 point

Well you can cheat by letting the xeon run 3.8 all the time LoL. If you are talking about the cooler being overkill I got the cooler for free :D

Even if its overkill it keeps it cool which is always better...

Like your build btw +1

BUT YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE PSU ASAP if you change it to a better psu itll give overall better performance and power of course and wont explode

I don't think it would help much with performance, but not blowing up is also important, I guess

agree with the psu. You have a Xeon and a 980ti i would get at least 750w gold or something like that.

Rating dosent make it better.

Though most platinums are high quality.

what? a xeon consumes less power and a 980TI doesnt need anything more than 600 really. I'dg et a 550 80+ gold or a 650+ bronze at least. that can run the system perfectly fine

does the boost clock stays on all the time or only under load?

  • 1 point

underload. Usually xeons only boost to 3.8 with 2 core and 3.6 with 4. But if u use sync all core they will all boost to 3.8.

Uuuuuuum... Nice boost do they get waaaay hotter?

Do you think this is a similar build? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ncJKrH Also I will overclock. Do you think I should use the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 or should I get the msi b85 G43 mobo?

  • 1 point

You cant overclock a xeon. You can only change the boost clock.

  • 1 point

Yeah that's what I meant, sorry.

if you can afford it go for z97. z97 not only made with higher quality component they have better sound, better look (if u want window case) and Sli. Also super fast m.2 interface. Xeon can not overclock. Period. Unless you do something crazy like bios hack or whatever which void your warranty. If u want to OC get 4790k. But at the end of the day, OC is kind of overate. An haswell xeon can run well untill cannonlake.

How has your video card held up since you started your build?

It is overkill for my liking

how did you get the cpu overclocked? I am considering getting this cpu for my strict budget and wanting to twitch stream.. that xeon would save me about $70 which i could save towards a gpu upgrade.

  • 1 point

Well you can always tweak the base clock. Mine are stable at 105 (instead of 100) 105 x 38 = 3,99 GHZ

When you can, try upgrading to a mechanical keyboard. The switches feel much better than a rubber dome. Also, you might want to consider a headset upgrade, a good headset being the HyperX Cloud II

My headset is a relic from the ps4 era. When I have money I probably upgrade :D
