Description

After my last build (https://pcpartpicker.com/b/dNhqqs) i have improved a lot and fixed the bottle necking. I found out how to enable overclocking settings and set it to auto... the result was a clock speed of 4.3 ghz!!!!!! Now i don't get lagg spikes! the water cooling helped with the extreme heat but it is still hot. I am planing on getting a huge case and try out a custom water cooling solution while still using the Pentium ( i love the Pentium) Here are the fps counts of popular games.( all games are running on high or ultra settings)

tf2 : 100+ unturned: 120+ gmod: Usually 150+ terraria: 200+ minecraft: on unlimited fps settings 900+

for my setup, I was comfortably sitting around 55 FPS on ultra settings with mods. though there were dips in to 40s, after all it's only a dual core ;)

What about in Diamond City?

that's where my tested was in...running around down in Diamond City and then started firing at guards and stuff for fun to test. cpu handles it quite well for the most part but ofc dips here and there :)

I'm not OP but have a G3258/GTX 950 build, runs 40 - 60 fps with utilization for both 80% - 100%. Min fps is kinda low but gameplay for me is still very smooth.

Settings are all maxed @ 1080p except godrays and shadow distance, which is a HUGE performance killer (medium shadow distance = 3,000, high and ultra = 14,000 and 20,000 lmao)

It's nice to see people putting effort into "cheaper" builds

nice! I recently revised my G3258 into a 'red MSI dragon build'. you can see it under my Saved Parts List. It's running well at 4.5ghz. however it would randomly restart for no reason... i tried changing my memory out from 1866 to 1600 and now nothing, perfectly stable. so let me know if you have any issues with the 1866 ram! i would like to know if it was memory gone bad, bad memory slot or the memory speed too fast.

also, personally I don't use the auto overclock feature...it tends to always overvolt. last time I tried it, I got 4.3ghz at 1.4V!!! however I do it manual and it's perfectly stable overclocking wise at 4.5ghz and only 1.25v.

good build! +1

Is nobody going to point out that he bought 16gb of ram and his heaviest game is tf2? Really?

Nice one!

I have acually upgraded it more but I can't post it currently so keep a eye out. Also OC will help in bottle necking situations.

personally, I would have gone for fx 6300/8320, 60-70 dollar mobo, bit cheaper ram, non-evo ssd (Its wayyyy overpriced... similar kingston is about $35-40) a r9380/ gtx 960, and an evga 750 watt (Cheaper and semimodular)

Yeah I understand the question when saving money. I don't think this one is really about cost effectiveness and just trying out the G3258. Custom water cooling next. Go for it builder.
