The PC Overall

After cycling through various PC components for the past year or so, I was finally able to put together something I have always wanted, and I present to you, Rainbow Road.

Since August of 2014, I have been going through so many different parts for my PC. For example, I have gone through 3 GPUs and 4 CPU Coolers. I have finally settled on great components that play any game at 1080p at almost complete maxed out settings. This PC is also great for photo and video editing, and heavy multitasking.

I have purchased most of my parts during a sale. I bought my keyboard, mouse, headset, monitor, controller, and SSD on Black Friday for ridiculously low prices. I bought my Graphics Card on eBay for $200, and I got my secondary monitor for $20 at the pawn shop. Lol. The only things I did not get on sale was the CPU, Motherboard, RAM, HDD, and Case.

My favorite part of this build is the RGB lights inside. They can do almost any color, and have different modes, like strobing and Fading through every color. A pretty nice touch overall.

I also did paint the outside of the GPU, and the RAM Heatsinks white. I used heat resistant rust-proof paint, and did about 2 coats each. Looks pretty good in my opinion.

Some Issues

I have had some issues with this computer. A problem that bugs but doesn't hurt anything is when it is booting up, it displays boot codes at the bottom left (9C, 92, 99, B2). All that does is slow down the boot time by about 20 or 30 seconds.

Another issue is between the Logitech G930 and the F710. They both work fine by themselves, but when I am using them at the same time, the controller stops working for about 3 seconds, then resumes, and the headset turns off and then back on again.

Part Reviews

CPU

Great budget CPU. Gets the job done nicely.

CPU Cooler

Great CPU Cooler. Looks nice, and I like the RGB light. My only complaint is the length of the tubes. I had to twist the tubes to make it fit in my case.

Motherboard

Pretty solid motherboard. It looks great and works well. The issue I have with this is that the boot time is delayed by about 20 or 30 seconds because of random boot codes at the bottom left during start-up. Also, the temperature readings for the CPU temp is always dropping to about 4 degrees centigrade when the processor temp is under 40. I'm not 100% positive that this is the motherboard or the AM3+ chipset, or the CPU.

Memory

It's RAM. Gets the job done.

Storage

Very fast SSD. Runs Windows 10 no problem at great speeds. I have never had any issues with it.

Storage

Great for storing mass files on, like games and Gopro videos. Gets loud at times.

Video Card

This GPU runs just about any game at almost max settings. Stays nice and cool, but can get loud at times.

Case

Good budget case overall. It was easy to build in, and looks great as well. My two complaints are the window scratches really easily, and the outside finish attracts finger prints.

Power Supply

Great power supply. Stays quiet and cool. The modular cables are a nice addition.

Keyboard

Great keyboard for gaming. I love the switches and the lighting. I don't mind the shape of the keycaps, but half of the keyboard has 3 elevated edges (top, sides), but the other half only has two elevated edges (left & right sides). I also can't seem to get this keyboard paired with the Logitech ARX software on my phone.

Headphones

Good wireless headphones. I love the sound and the 7.1 surround. It is also very comfortable, and the volume wheel and G-Keys are a nice addition. My only problem is that the 2.4 Ghz connection interferes with my 2.4 Ghz controller at times.

Nice one. +1 now OC that puppy. With all that cooler, that's what it's built for.

Glad to see your Logysis RGB lights work. I bought some of those and they were DOA. Replaced with Deepcool RGB lights.

The CPU cooler looks very odd. Is there no room to mount above?

The s340 only has a 140mm exhaust at the top, dual rad mounting is handled by the front.

I have a similar set up with an 8320 but my motherboard is the msi 970 gaming. I also get the same boot codes. It seems like from what i've read some people aren't able to boot with this problem, although mine seems to run fine. I have no solution or anything really to add but i figured i'd let you know that you aren't alone.
