Reasons to regret buying Skylake in late 2016: 1: This 2: Builds like this 3: Because Ryzen 4: Because Kaby Lake 5: "Future Proof" feels a lot less future proof.

Great build man. I see you with the XFX 480 Crossfire game running strong.

Thanks. I've been debating for sometime whether to wait for Ryzen or go intel. So far, I'm glad I waited. Hopefully I'll be glad in a few months yet.

LOL... It games just fine, no issues what so ever. Plus its main priority is a work station. Ryzen dominates the work game.

Well said. tips hat
I have an i5 in my other computer. I didn't build, just changed out a few parts; ram, gpu, power supply. Thing performs great for what it is. However, its a dog in video rendering, it cpu bottlenecks when streaming any game besides world of tanks. The Ryzen suits what I require over multiple facets of performance. Its much better than a quad core for what I built it to do.

Stock or OC?

At stock frequency right now. Will be looking for a 3.9 oc very soon. Going to compare benchmarks stock to oc

You must be referring to the first picture. I was painting a bedroom when the cpu was delivered.

Nice stuff, all AMD, I like it. DId the CPU not come with a decent cooler?

  • 1 point

It came with a Wraith Spire cooler. I hear its a great cooler for a freebie. Capable of achieving oc 3.9ghz with stock cooler. I just had a new 212 evo on the shelf that I got when I bought my previous computer and just never used it. Temps are great so far assuming they're accurate.

Cheers, had heard pretty great stuff about the wraith so was curious. Great work once again.

From what I read, 3.7 is the safe overclock for stock cooler. Lots of conflicting results are there.

Did you need the AM4 Mounting bracket for the motherboard?

I got an adapter from cooler master. The link is in another comment already

What a great build! I always want to use Ryzen 7 but, 11 April is the release so I might change. You might like that new Ryzen! Default: i5-7600K Is that VGA doesn't feel to expensive? I have a plan buying the GTR version less than $250 in Newegg.com (not Marketplace).

does crossfire actually work on that chipset?

MSI B350 tomahawk board for multiple gpus it only supports crossfire. It will NOT do nvidia sli.

Hi im thinking about getting this motherboard and rx 480 crossfire,do you have any bottlenecking due to second pcie slot being x4?

  • 1 point

It performs great with titles that utilize crossfire. For the price to performance, no complaints here.

  • 1 point

Crossfire works on this board. Sli does NOT.

Did the Hyper 212 EVO fit as I'm unaware of it having AM4 socket support.

I would be interested in your and other PCPPers opinion on need for aftermarket cooler such as Evo versus the stock Spire cooler

  • 1 point

I never installed the spire cooler. Never even opened its box. Evo works great with the mounting bracket from cooler master. http://www.cmstore-usa.com/amd-am4-upgrade-kit-rr-accy-am4b-r1/

Did the CPU cooler fit fine on the motherboard? Did you have to buy something else?

  • 1 point

It fits. the evo 212 hangs above the closest memory slot. Install memory prior to CPU cooler if using all four slots of memory.
